If you’re heading to Hotham for a winter getaway, you will be pleased to know that one of Melbourne’s top gastro-pubs is in residence with a pop-up. Prahran gastro-pub L’Hôtel Gitan is taking over Alphutte at Dinner Plain to produce Gitan Alps, a classic mountain-side eatery dishing out exactly the kind of eats you’ll be craving after a long day on the slopes.
Like a scene directly from the slopes of Courchevel or Chamonix, L’Hôtel Gitan is recreating the experience of the toasty winter refuges with open fires, hearty meals and warming treats. Croque Monsieurs, Boeuf Bourguignon and Raclette will be staples on the menu. Think steaming hot potatoes, charcuterie and cornichons. Follow it up with something sweet, like a profiterole with choux pastry and chocolate drizzle and a hot choccy. If you’re confident in your ability to ski down the mountain after a few, why not treat yourself to a salted caramel espresso martini?
Prepare for a little more après ski than actual skiing with this one. Gitan Alps is open for lunch from Friday to Sunday and dinner every night from 8 to 21 August.
