If rubbing shoulders with celebrated chefs at a property home to one of Australia’s most renowned 2 Chefs Hat restaurants sounds like your idea of a good time, then you ought to put The Lake House Cooking School on your bucket list.
The iconic Lake House Daylesford Hotel, Restaurant and Spa is just a 90-minute drive from Melbourne. Situated in six acres of country gardens and flanked by Lake Daylesford, the venue’s stunning surrounds are equally enticing as the exciting modern Australian dishes that are created there.
Culinary Director, Alla Wolf-Tasker AM, her artist husband Allan and their daughter Larissa have curated everything to do with the hotel with Alla overseeing the restaurant flourish with its seasonality and produce-focused menu. With numerous accolades under her belt, as well as a number of appearances in the media with MasterChef Australia, Food Safari and more, Alla Wolf-Tasker has become a household name.
The state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen has allowed Alla to open her doors for like-minded chefs and eager-to-learn foodies for the ultimate fine dining day in Daylesford. This year alone, The Lake House Cooking School is hosting masterclasses with the likes of Benjamin Cooper (Chin Chin), Brent Savage (Bentley, Yellow, Cirrus, Monopole), Shane Delia (Maha, Biggie Smalls), Frank Camorra (Movida), Ross Lusted (The Bridge Room), Danielle Alvarez (Fred’s), Donovan Cooke (Ryne) and Justin James (Vue De Monde).
These classes are a full day of demonstrations with tastings, a baguette lunch and refreshments included. For a more hands-on approach, you can also take a class with two chefs from The Lake House restaurant in the purpose-built Cooking School kitchen. This includes a three-hour cooking session, preparing dishes for your own sit-down lunch, including wine, of course.
Both hands-on and demonstration classes see you heading home with a folder full of recipes, so you can replicate what you’ve learned in your own kitchen. Not that you ought to head home straight away, accommodation packages are available upon request.
Classes are seasonal (themed as summer, autumn, winter and spring), and occur on a Sunday. For further details and to book, head to the Lake House website.
