Wines for Joanie Farm Cottage
163 Glendale Road, Sidmouth, TAS
(03) 6394 7005
Hidden among the rolling hills of the Tamar Valley, the Wines for Joanie Farm Cottage is the ideal accommodation for those after an intimate, secluded escape. Nestled into the grounds of the boutique winery with the same name, the refurbished cottage offers a chance to unwind in nature, with craft wines at your doorstep.
The 140-acre property was originally an apple orchard, planted back in the 1880s. Historic buildings from the farm’s previous life are dotted around the property, creating a village-like atmosphere. Andrew and Prue have carefully repaired and restored them one by one, giving them character and purpose on the farm.
One of these is the Farm Cottage. The one-bedroom, 1940s property combines country living with modern amenities, making for the ideal place to rest your head whilst travelling through the region. It can accommodate couples and small families, with an antique queen bed, kitchenette, lounge room and a vintage veranda equipped with an outdoor table and barbecue.
Each morning you’ll start the day right with a boutique breakfast hamper filled with fresh and local produce. Tasmanian gourmet muesli by Day Time Foods, yoghurt, fresh fruit, homemade jams and fresh locally baked bread are all included, ensuring you’re ready for whatever the day will bring.
While the Farm Cottage is just five minutes from Exeter and Beaconsfield and just over half an hour from Launceston, there aren’t many reasons to leave.
The Wines for Joanie property is home to a rustic Tasting Room where you can work your way through the full range of wines, as well as shoot the breeze with Andrew and Prue at the wooden share table. Wines are, of course, available for purchase and each evening you can enjoy bottles of your choice from their current vintages. Cosy up to a red in front of the log fire, or enjoy a crisp white with picturesque views from your veranda or bed.
When the time comes to eat, there are options galore. Prue and Andrew can provide you with a curated list of local dining options, or if you’d prefer make the most of every minute on the farm, gourmet pre-packed meals made by the Chef, Daniel Alps, can be organised in advance. If you’re keen to cook, pay a visit to the local shops and fire up the barbecue while enjoying a bottle of wine.
A unique experience in the heart of a boutique winery, the Wines for Joanie Farm Cottage is the ultimate country escape. Bringing you back to nature and away from the city, it’s the ideal spot to enjoy one of Tasmania’s most picturesque areas.
