Daytime dining in the CBD is not always overly inspiring, generally consisting of quick takeaway options during lunchbreaks or long corporate lunches. The term ‘cafe fine dining’ is not a label that could be easily assigned to many CBD venues. Sydney’s White Rabbit cafe is working to change the face of city dining, revolutionising the financial district’s cafe culture.

Bringing the quintessential Sydney beach culture and casual dining experience to Elizabeth Street’s doorstep, White Rabbit’s goal is to provide an affordable cafe experience that serves up fine-dining quality food.

Owner and chef, Steven Fadda is well versed in the demands of CBD dining, having spent many years working in fast-paced fine dining establishments around Sydney. From this experience, he has taken his vast knowledge to create a contemporary, playful menu plated up for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The menu features a huge range of classic dishes, as well as more innovative items complete with a modern, gastronomic twist. For breakfast, the pork belly with braised white beans, poached eggs and chorizo is a crowd pleaser, with delicious sweet and spicy aromas that are sure to turn heads. For something a little lighter, opt for the Summer Toast with goat’s cheese, tomato, basil, mint, chilli flakes and a poached egg.

Lunch can be enjoyed in a variety of forms, whether you’re squeezing in a treat or settling in for the afternoon. The salmon and lobster ravioli with lobster bisque foam and black caviar perfectly exemplify the cafe’s mandate, bringing sophisticated cuisine into a casual setting.

White Rabbit is situated on the corner of two of Sydney’s busiest streets, with a large outdoor area overlooking Elizabeth and O’Connell Streets so you can sit back with a glass of wine and watch the world go by. There is also an indoor dining area, perfect for long boozy lunches or a cosy coffee on a rainy day.

After dark, the cafe doubles as a wine and charcuterie bar, accommodating for city dwellers in need of a late-night drop. Thursday and Friday evenings also feature live music, with RnB Friday’s rapidly becoming a weekend hotspot.

Led by a passionate and dedicated team, it is really hard to match the unique experience of White Rabbit. From the fresh, beautifully presented dishes to the exceptional service, a visit to White Rabbit is ticking all the boxes of an innovative CBD dining experience.
