The Potting Shed
7A/2 Huntley Steet, Alexandria
02 9699 2225
The Potting Shed is the place to meet and catch up with your mates over a few drinks. Like most potting sheds, it is a place where you can get fed and watered, and with dishes like their slow-roasted pulled pork sandwich with slaw, and handmade pappardelle, or the house-cured ocean trout on toast with fennel and herb salad, it will require multiple visits.
The bar-come-restaurant is located just behind the small car park between The Grounds of Alexandria and Salt, Meats, Cheese and is an extension of the ever increasing food empire (that might soon require its own postcode!) that is The Grounds of Alexandria.
The décor incorporates hanging plants, terracotta pots and timber beams mixed with the rustic charm of brass, brick and iron. There’s plenty of room and always plenty going on, no matter when you decide to visit the potting shed. The Shed hands prepare mouth-watering meals using honest ingredients of fresh, locally harvested produce.
Delicious food aside, pull up a stool at the bar where the friendly staff will happily deliver you craft beers on tap, great wines and unique cocktails, coupled with a side of good banter. Try local brews from Six String Golden Ale in Erina, or for cider fans may we recommend ordering yourself a Hill Billy Cider. The Cocktail list includes playfully named concoctions including ‘The Porch Crawler’, a power shandy of almond milk, grapefruit infused rhubarb spirit and India Pale Ale. You can follow that up the morning after with a Bloody Melon Mary of signature spice mix.
It is the small thoughtful touches, including shovel-handled taps, a wheelbarrow fire pit and a swing you can plant yourself down on and swing to your heart’s content, that make this a watering hole like no other. The Potting Shed has the same homely, rustic, wholesome vibe of The Grounds Cafe minus the hustle and bustle. Instead it is replaced with a relaxed gathering place to meet with friends and family.
Located within The Potting Shed is another space known as The Atrium. This space is perfect for sharing a platter amongst friends, or a meal with a special someone. The country terrace is teeming with natural light throughout the day and a welcoming glow after dark. The menu is on par with the rest of The Grounds and features local fare coupled with mouth-watering refreshments. The space is a botanical sanctuary, where you can enjoy a few drinks amongst the greenery as the pleasant aroma wafts by from the nearby on-site florist. The beautiful setting of The Atrium makes for the perfect venue to celebrate your next occasion.
