Make your way through the infamous twists and turns of Barrenjoey Road to reach a town that looks a lot like paradise. Avalon embodies the essence of the Northern Beaches: surfers tote their longboards across the road, and kids wearing the local uniform of stripes and linen skate barefoot around the village while their mothers meet for coffee.

The Avalon on the Beach is where these locals intersect: you’ll find early morning swimmers grabbing a coffee from the kiosk, families enjoying a relaxed lunch, and diners proudly showing their out-of-towner friends picturesque views of their beach and beyond. Situated right on the oceanfront and offering panoramic views of the water and headlands, The Avalon on the Beach is a dining destination.

The Trippas White Group recognised the potential of the location and worked with the Avalon Surf Lifesaving Club to open the restaurant and kiosk in 2015. Responsible for some of Sydney’s most iconic venues, including the Botanic Gardens Restaurant and 360 Bar and Dining, the Trippas White team had the know-how to create a dining experience that would do the stunning views justice. Making the most of the location, Australian produce and seafood dominate the menu to create an array of fresh seasonal dishes.

Start the day with a swim in the sea pool and a walk along the sand, best accompanied by a Double Roasters coffee from the kiosk. If you’re feeling peckish, go for the house bacon and egg roll with tomato chutney, or a bowl of the bircher muesli with pistachios and King Island organic honey. Later in the day you’ll find a selection of wraps, burgers, and of course, classic beer-battered fish and chips.

If you’re after something a little more refined, head upstairs to the restaurant. Choose from breakfast dishes such as poached eggs with hummus, Binnorie Persian feta and dukkah, or indulgent French toast topped with caramelised banana and organic maple syrup.

As the sun moves west, the seafood options come into their own. Beachside views are best enjoyed with a plate of golden Pacific oysters with yuzu dressing, and a bucket of juicy Queensland tiger prawns with lemon and aioli. Move onto the summer bruschetta – toasted sourdough piled high with vine-ripened tomatoes, prosciutto, basil, creamy bocconcini and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

For something larger, look to the flavour-packed chicken katsu drumsticks served with spicy slaw and nori wasabi mayo, or a spice-rubbed flat iron steak paired with grilled corn, chipotle, salsa and parmesan. Finish off any meal with the signature Avalon choc top – made with freeze-dried raspberries and silky chocolate mousse.

Sweet treats also feature on the cocktail menu: the Lotus martini combines vanilla vodka, passion vodka, passionfruit, Aperol and pineapple juice for the perfect summer refreshment. A selection of beers and wines from Australia and further afield are also available to pair with your meal.

The ocean is a constant background to your time at The Avalon on the Beach. With a simple design that highlights this natural beauty, coupled with fresh, flavoursome food, The Avalon on the Beach fits in perfectly with the local lifestyle: relaxed but refined.
