Seaside dining destinations are a dime a dozen in Sydney and the last thing that Manly Wharf needed was yet another seafood restaurant, so those who turn their noses at the sniff of fish will be relieved to see Queen Chow now settled comfortably on her Northern Beaches throne.

Taking over from the much loved Papi Chulo, Queen Chow 2.0 brings everything that Sydney loves about the Enmore original to the glistening shores of Manly. Patrick Friesen and Eric Koh have emulated the sumptuous fare of their Enmore Road venue and enhanced it with a touch of nostalgia.

In Patrick’s words, “We want to create a place that echoes the sentiment of neighbourhood Chinese restaurants of years past, where people come often and with the people they love the most. Your local Chinese, with all the favourites, cooked beautifully.”

Looking to not only the refined dai pai dongs of Hong Kong for inspiration but also the wealth of Chinese restaurants scattered across Australia, Queen Chow Manly looks to play on emotions and draw on past memories through a classic menu. So many Australians will remember the rich, sticky flavours of their local Chinese restaurants, platters of peking duck and char siu pork followed by a ball of deep-fried ice cream and Queen Chow embraces these memories whole-heartedly. Imagine sharing platters of Mongolian lamb san choi bao, peking duck pancakes or mud crab, lobster and pippies, wok-fried with XO sauce while gazing across the water from Manly’s iconic wharf.

Eric’s famous dim sum skills will be on show just as they are in Enmore. Regarded as one of the world’s best dim sum chefs, Eric brings 35 years of experience to the kitchen, including stints at Mr. Wong and London’s Michelin-starred Hakkasan and Yauatcha. His famous dumplings will be steamed, baked and fried in the Manly kitchen to create scallop and prawn siu mai, prawn har gau, soupy xiao long bao, sweet egg custard tarts and a wealth of other favourites.

Overlooking the splendours of Sydney Harbour, Manly Wharf is one of Sydney’s most picturesque locations. Queen Chow’s design concept perfectly marries the seaside, nautical theme of the location with the classic old school Chinese vibe of the restaurant to result in a venue that looks perfectly at home on the water.
