Over 500 wines line the walls of this dark and mysterious wine bar. Monopole, the only hatted bar in Potts Point, is another hit from the Savage/Hildebrandt duo behind Bentley and Yellow.
Chef Brent Savage’s modern, shareable menu changes each weekend to keep Saturday and Sunday lunches a little more exciting than your average roast.
“Signature dishes is not my thing and you will notice this throughout all my restaurants,” Brent said. “I like to keep things interesting and so does my team. Food is seasonal, and so should be the menus.”
“Like all our venues, we like to go by the mantra of good produce, made and served well in a beautiful setting.”
Monopole is more than a bar. It’s a place where locals can drop in for a drink, friends can meet, and couples can dine. There is an exciting list of organic, biodynamic and rare wines and a variety of snacks and share plates to complement. The home-made charcuterie is a highlight and there are larger meals for those who want something more substantial.
The charcuterie, made in-house, features cured duck breast, cured Rangers Valley tri tip bresaola, and cured Berkshire spiced sausage, all served with pickles. And there are plenty of wines to match.
Saturday and Sunday lunch is fast growing a cult following with the locals. It’s good and it’s simple. For a fixed price, you have a choice of two courses, main and dessert, and diners can expect a new experience every week depending on what’s on season and what chef feels like cooking that day!
An important part of any weekend lunch is, of course, the wine to match and there is no better place than Monopole to get a taste of some of the world’s best and most interesting wines. Sommelier Nick Hildebrandt’s award winning wine list is an eclectic selection of rare and boutique wines from around the world, some created especially for Hildebrandt, and is easy to navigate with the help of the simple layout and informed wait staff.
Monopole is a classy, wine bar with a captivating emphasis on both natural wine and cleverly manipulated food. It offers a new experience in a relaxed dining room, one where you can try Brent’s amazing food, designed to be shared with your friends.
Create your own tasting menu and choose from Nick’s wine list or let the experts take you on a Monopole journey. Monopole has won a series of awards around town. Best wine bar, best wine list and this year one Chefs’ Hat in the 2015 Good Food Awards. Brent Savage was awarded chef of the year, 2015.
