The team behind Eau de Vie have done it again, spreading their love of the weird and wacky to the streets of Redfern. Their new bar, Mjølner, is an ode to Thor, the Norse God of Thunder, and is a modern-day version of a Viking feasting hall
Speakeasy Group owner, Sven Almenning, has partnered with Head Chef, Tom Gripton and Bar Manager, Russ McFadden, to open the new bar, spreading their love of good hospitality to Cleveland Street.
Like Melbourne’s Boilermaker House, also a Speakeasy venue, Mjølner will have a heavy whisky focus. With a collection of 450 whiskies already and an aim to add 150 more, it will be a serious destination for Sydney’s most passionate connoisseurs. There will also be nine beers on tap, pouring a rotating range of craft brews from Australia and further afield, as well as a selection of wine, cider and mead.
In true Viking fashion, this venture is going to be an all-out feasting hall. Led by Head Chef, Tom Gripton (Yellow, Bentley and Restaurant Hubert), the team has dedicated the Mjølner menu to carvery. Due to some ingenious interior design, everything will be happening smack bang in the middle of the restaurant, giving you a front-row seat to all the action. Expect suckling pig spinning on a spit, with a chef carving it right before your eyes.
Housed in the basement of an old tobacco house, Mjølner is so much more than somewhere for a quick drink and a bite. In true Eau de Vie fashion, everything has been selected with the utmost care and precision, all with the aim of creating a memorable experience as soon as you enter the door.
Mjølner is a feast for both eyes and stomachs alike. Take a seat on the yak-hair couch and prepare for an evening full of rowdy and raucous Viking fun.
