Located across the road from Bondi Beach, Hurricaneås Grill specialises in premium Australian free-range and grain-fed beef steaks along with premium pork, lamb and beef ribs. Opening in 1995, the restaurant focused on cooking meat in a unique style and its customers responded.
Helping to service the demands of local takeaway customers, Hurricane’s Express Bondi Beach opened in 2005 for those who wanted to sit on the beach and eat Hurricane’s or dine in at home.
Through word of mouth the restaurant rose in popularity and soon expanded to other locations across Sydney. In September 2013, the first Hurricane’s restaurant opened interstate in Queensland – also across the road from yet another world famous beach, Surfers Paradise.
Co-founder Tony Teixeira moved to Australia from Portugal in 1987. Coming from a small village north of Porto, Tony and his family lived off the land. At a young age he learnt to be a pastorà and became well versed in raising livestock for meat. Their property had an abundance of fruit trees and grapevines and they grew all their own vegetables so from a very young age, it was instilled in him the importance of using fresh, quality produce when cooking.
In 1992 Tony travelled to South Africa to learn the unique cooking technique of grilling meat in a flavoursome basting over an open flame. When he returned home he put his education to work and became the first Grill Chef in Australia, helping to start the very first Ribs & Rumps in Manly. Next, Tony turned his attention to opening his own restaurant. He observed that Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs were lacking in steakhouses and proceeded to open Hurricane’s Grill Bondi Beach.
Today the restaurant offers a modern atmosphere steeped in the swirling aroma of high-quality grilled meat. The restaurant is famous for its steaks, which total around eleven types on any given day, plus its extremely popular pork ribs. Hurricane’s Grill obtains all its meats from Victoria, Tasmania, and Queensland. The meat undergoes an extensive selection process to ensure that the kitchen only receives the best. All meats are handpicked by weight, marbling, and maturity.
The restaurant’s offerings do not end there. Its hefty menu includes a kids menu, numerous salads and copious starter options such as the buttery Garlic Mushrooms. A host of specialty burgers is also available such as the Wagyu Beef Burger which consists of 300g of seasoned, flame-grilled Wagyu on a bun and comes served with caramelised onions, lettuce, tomato, beetroot, a grilled Portobello mushroom and spicy aioli. Set menus are also offered daily.
Hurricane’s Grill is a fully licensed restaurant. In addition to its selection of international beers and wines from the Southern Hemisphere, it serves a number of signature cocktails ranging from Pisco Sours to Mojitos and Daiquiris. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and dinner and it welcomes bookings from groups of 14 or more.
