Bringing a slice of Barcelona to the heart of Bondi, Can Cava Pintxos and Wine is the newest kid on the block to break into the highly sought-after Bondi food scene.
Everything about this hip new eatery oozes Spanish charm. From the handmade tiles that line the restaurant and the strictly Spanish drinks menu, to the team leading the show, it is hard to believe you aren’t dining and drinking in the back streets of the Basque region.
As nice as it would be to sip sangria on Las Ramblas without a care in the world, there is a quintessential Australian twist to Can Cava. In what now seems to be a distinctly local trend, the menu looks to excite and intrigue, presenting an array of classic dishes that you would expect in any Spanish tapas bar, along with a number of modern adaptations.
At the helm in the kitchen is Head Chef, Jon Cowan (formerly of The Lodge). Jon’s menu champions simple, modern dishes, focusing on fresh ingredients, bold flavours and herbs and spices from faraway places. His menu is split in two: small bites (pintxos) and tasty share boards of Spanish cheeses, charcuterie and accompaniments (tablas). It is within the pintxos offering that Jon has re-imagined some of Spain’s classic bites – goat’s cheese croquettes are served with rosemary salt and honey, and potato chips are topped with tuna tartare.
For the sake of staying on trend, everything in the way of wine and beer at Can Cava is 100% Spanish. Those with a hankering for a classic glass of sangria, an ice-cold cerveza or perhaps a little vino blanco or rosado are very well looked after.
Thanks to the nibbly nature of Can Cava’s pintxos and tablas, the venue suits any occasion. Whether you are looking for a quick after work drink destination, a celebratory dinner venue or even just somewhere for dessert and a little aperitif, Can Cava has you covered all night long.
