Positioned in the heart of Bondi Junction, The Nelson Road Tuckshop caters to the health conscious residents of the Eastern Suburbs. Behind the sleek counter you’ll find protein-packed salads and balanced meals as well as a tempting selection of homemade pastries.
Owners, Felix Clark and his wife Corinna Kovner, run the sister cafe, Bellagio, in Waverly which has been operating for over ten years. Their extensive experience in the hospitality industry, including Corinna’s experience in nutrition and personal training, has allowed them to create a stand-out healthy dining experience in Bondi.
Determined to uphold their reputation for serving up a stellar cup of coffee, Felix was committed to using Campos Coffee in both venues. He said, “It was unquestionable that we were looking to continue our relationship with Campos when opening Nelson Road Tuckshop. Their support for our business has been paramount over the years.”
Fresh juice blends and smoothies are served alongside sought after cups of Campos Superior Blend coffee. Head Barista and Manager, Trent Bramley, has had a close working relationship with Campos in the past, having previously owned his own cafe. Not only is he committed to continuing the strong partnership Felix and Corinna have established, but he also believes “coffee is what wakes us up in the morning and keeps us going in the afternoon.” As a general rule, the Tuckshop uses seasonal, single origins for their cold drip set up, although for espresso extractions they don’t venture from the Superior Blend for consistency purposes. The Superior Blend has a toffee base with slight fruity highlights, and a rich body with a sweet butterscotch finish.
The bright and light decor of Tuckshop is complemented by a selection of quirky Australian knick-knacks. These additions bring personality to the space and reflect the menu’s desire to bring a modern twist to Australian classics. It is open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week and you can pre-order delicious lunch boxes in advance, or build your own lunch from 11.30am onwards.
The Nelson Road Tuckshop prides itself on a strong local following, with no specific demographic. Its close proximity to Bondi’s major gyms and its focus on wholesome eating has certainly attracted Sydney’s healthy eaters, but you’ll also find corporate meetings and coffee dates along this busy sidewalk.
If you can’t make it into Tuckshop, you might be lucky enough to stumble across their homemade sourdough and French-inspired pastries featured in some of Sydney’s best cafes and restaurants. So keep an eye out!
