A restaurant’s design should be true to its ethos; with a single step into Harvest Store and Kitchen, you’ll find a space that’s vibrant, light and full of greenery. Built around the premise of showcasing seasonal produce, the design is a nod to its food philosophy, welcoming each diner to share in celebrating good food.

Food-obsessed business partners, Karen Evans-Halliday and Sarah Paul, established Harvest in 2009 to share the food they love with the locals of the Northern Beaches. Their combined industry experience meant there was no stopping the duo: Karen is a seasoned caterer and private chef, while Sarah has worked at renowned restaurants Rockpool and Beach Road. Together, they created exactly the place they wanted to dine at.

As you walk inside, you’ll notice the gilded sign. Handmade by local sign writer, Tim Hutton, the signpost represents the painstaking process behind harvesting – dedication and care is what Harvest is all about. Inside, you’ll find the light-filled room decorated with fresh flowers from the local florist and greens from the venue’s garden.

Harvest operates as a two-in-one kitchen and providore of organic ingredients. The seasonal menu highlights simple ingredients and uncomplicated cooking methods: everything from the granola and preserves to the daily cakes, tarts and treats is made from scratch. In the kitchen, Karen and Sarah cook with free-range eggs from local producer Papanui, bread from Berkelo and greens, beans, herbs and edible flowers from Forage Gourmet Edibles.

Open for breakfast and lunch, as well as drinks on Friday and Saturday nights, the ever-changing menu is designed to highlight the best of what’s in season.

Start the day with house-baked beans, Paesanella ricotta, roast cherry tomatoes and pancetta – the ultimate comfort food to ease you into the day. If you’re feeling like something lighter, try the organic porridge, served with poached pears, rhubarb and toasted almonds.

At lunchtime, the popular Harvest steak sandwich with aioli, tomato, rocket and chilli onions is hard to go past. If you’re after a hearty salad, the Mt Zero beluga lentil and baby beet salad with goat’s curd, cashews and pomegranate offers a delectable combination of textures and fresh flavours. The menu also offers larger options to share (or have all to yourself), such as succulent roasted lamb served with potato gratin and parmesan artichokes.

Whether for breakfast, lunch or drinks, at Harvest Store and Kitchen you’ll have to choose between daily specials and old time favourites. On the drinks side, there’s specialty coffee from No Label Coffee, as well as crisp apple and pear cider from Hillbilly and refreshing cocktails all on offer.

True to the laid-back charm of the Northern Beaches, the vibe at Harvest Store and Kitchen is friendly and relaxed. Karen and Sarah’s love of real, fresh food shows throughout the menu – it’s no wonder Harvest has become a local favourite.
