If the name of this playful Erskineville cafe doesn’t make you smile, a bite from the menu and a sip of its coffee most certainly will. With the ‘triangle values’ of good coffee, good food and good service at its core, it’s no wonder that Fleetwood Macchiato has a loyal following and welcomes visitors from far and wide.

Owners Jai Pyne and Tara Byrne opened the doors to Fleetwood Macchiato in 2012 with the intention of curating a menu that showcases fresh, seasonal produce and can be devoured in a diverse and inclusive atmosphere. Stepping away from the traditional cafe culture, Jai and Tara aspired to add character to the conventional – and if popularity is anything to judge by, they have done just that.

Alongside Jai and Tara, Head Chef, Scott Duncan is no stranger to the demands of Sydney’s heaving hospitality scene, having manned the kitchens of The Butler in Potts Point and his own venue, Brighton The Corner in Petersham among others. Scott’s commitment to adventurous and inventive cooking makes for an exciting menu that constantly changes according to the season.

Particularly prevalent is his taste for curing and smoking, like the hugely popular Brisket Sandwich, which is brined, smoked and roasted in-house and served with Chinese cabbage and pickled watermelon. Alternatively, opt for the citrus-cured kingfish with dill labne, radish and pickled onion on Melba toast and topped with a poached egg. Combining a passion for food with the artistry of its presentation, Fleetwood Macchiato has become a modern cafe dining experience not to be missed.

The team at Fleetwood Macchiato, including Head Barista, Cass Hay works closely with Sample Coffee, which supplies the house blend, Pacemaker. The blend is dark roasted with fruity undertones and hints of chocolate, ensuring that it works beautifully with milk or on its own. For something a little sweeter, treat yourself to a glass of house-made cordial or soda, both equally as delicious and refreshing.

Located just a stone’s throw from the Sydney University campus, be sure to make it to Fleetwood Macchiato early before the caffeine-crazed uni students beat you to it. With great food, quality service and delicious coffee to be guzzled up, popping into Fleetwood Macchiato on your next trip to Erskineville is a must.
