If you can find your way through the graffiti adorned walls of Redfern, you may just be able to find Crêpe and Coffee Co. The beach-shack inspired cafe is located just steps from the train station and has been dishing up sweet and savoury crêpes and single origin Colombian coffee since 2011.

Owner, Brad Fleming, started in the crêpe business with his Blini Bar stall at the Eveleigh Farmers’ Market, building up a reputation for soft and creamy crêpes stuffed full of sweet and savoury fillings. His success led to an expansion at a permanent base nearby. He found a lifetime coffee partner in Cesaro Comestaro Vela, of Colombian Connection, who supplies the cafe with certified organic single origin beans, sourced directly from the Colombian coffee farmers.

Jordan Caibre Zordan is in charge of the coffee, turning out the full gamut of espresso-based offerings. The beans are roasted locally in Marrickville in the Colombian Connection warehouse, supplied straight from the farmers of the Tolima region of Colombia. There is a rotating list of boutique single origin beans in the grinders, all the while maintaining the distinctively smooth and caramel/chocolaty profile.

The space takes on an old world industrial meets new world chic vibe, with reclaimed timber elements covering the walls and huge French doors opening out onto the street, juxtaposed with more modern elements of raw steel, glass, large mirrors and character lighting. Lounge on the leather chesterfield sofas at the back or get up close and personal with the barista on one of the bright stools by the front. The glass panels surrounding the crêpe makers mean you can watch the masters at work. The blackboard behind the counter will let you know what’s on offer, but if you’re a Nutella fan, don’t bother reading it.

The cafe’s namesake – thin French crêpes stuffed with any number of different fillings – dominates the menu. Sweet-tooths will be drooling over the classic Nutella combinations; you can pair the chocolaty-hazelnut goodness with your choice of fruits or keep it simple with lashings of the stuff. Savoury options include The French Brekkie, crispy bacon, egg and hollandaise sauce; Hook’m, shaved leg ham, cheese and sautéed mushrooms; and The Chick Club – a variation on the traditional chicken club, to name but a few.

Crêpes aren’t the only food options on the menu. Stick your head in for the coffee and stay for the all-day breakfasts, including a bacon, chorizo or veg hotpot, naked eggs benedict or the classic bacon and eggs on sourdough toast. Sandwiches are also on offer for lunch, including a fancy BLAT and a gourmet chicken or gourmet salmon toastie. Those in a rush can grab something to go.
