Veraison restaurant is located at the home of Bluestone Lane Winery, situated within the beautiful Peninsula wine country, and created by owners, Mark and Cherie Poulter. The restaurant’s foundation is built upon materials salvaged from 130 years of Melbourne’s bluestone laneways. New beginnings with a wealth of history. The dining experience at Veraison can be classed as “symmetry” encompassing the four key elements, food, wine, service and ambience. All eclipsing one another, these elements offer guests a truly unique dining experience.
Inspired by his late grandmother -a great cook in her own right- Mark has always had a passion for cooking; spending much of his early childhood in the famed culinary region of the Yarra Valley. His cooking abilities have been crafted and honed by the many hundreds of local and international chefs he has worked with throughout his cooking career. In late 2008 Mark opened the door of their restaurant “VERAISON” which was a vision of many years, finally established on the family estate.
Veraison’s food is classical seasonal Modern Australian, a success put down to their use of fresh, organic and seasonal produce featured from the estates extensive one acre organic kitchen garden, alongside other local produce from the Balnarring and Mornington Peninsula region. You will often find Mark and Cherie pottering amongst the fruit and vegetables, selecting produce ready for the small plate lunch menus or the more formal dinner menus.
Veraison has many signature dishes highlighting Mark’s accomplishments as a chef. Culinary pleasures such as the salt-cured organic tea-smoked partridge, soft morel terrine, or the pinot quince puree, there is by no means ordinary cooking here. Evenings resonate with the sounds of the Yamaha concert grand piano, which Cherie plays on a regular basis an accomplished pianist in her own right. Regular concert performances and dinner shows feature throughout the year, highlighting the excellent local talent the Mornington Peninsula has to offer. Guests can simply relax amongst the umbrellas in summer on the terrace, or sit by the open fire in winter taking in the sounds of the bush over a bottle of wine.
Weddings are a feature with this beautifully up kept Estate in its amazing scenery and Veraison’s friendly and welcoming team ensuring you have a celebration you will remember for a lifetime. Mark and Cherie are delighted and proud their restaurant has been recognised with a number of prestigious industry awards and have many regulars that echo constant positive feedback.
The Mornington Peninsula has always been known as “Melbourne’s Playground” a place for relaxation and pleasure. The couple has seen many decades of change, the influence of Melbournians settling in the region. This has seen the establishment of world-class golf courses, gastronomique restaurants and better standards of what the Peninsula has to offer.
