Almost 30 years ago three Mornington Peninsula wineries, situated ten minutes by tractor apart, joined forces to create a truly unique venture. Today Ten Minutes By Tractor is home to five stunning vineyards, an award-winning restaurant, and an unmatched cellar.

Passionate wine lover and wine historian, Martin Spedding, purchased the property back in 2004. After an extensive search throughout Australia and New Zealand for a cool-climate winery he stumbled across Ten Minutes By Tractor. He was immediately intrigued by the complexity and diversity of the different sites, and thrilled to have three unique terroirs (now five) with different aspects, elevations and soils.

Stuart Bell joined the Ten Minutes by Tractor team as head chef a few years later, looking after the on-site restaurant. Stuart had always wanted to be a chef, and as a kid he would often help his mum and grandma bake cakes. He went on to complete an impressive apprenticeship at Melbourne’s Windsor Hotel under celebrated French chef, Bruno Cerdan, before whipping his impressive resumé into shape. He received guidance from some of the industry’s best, including Jacques Reymond, Philippe Mouchel and Alain Fabrègues, not to mention completing stints in several Michelin-starred restaurants throughout Europe.

But despite all of his skills, Stuart doesn’t want to create food that is overly fancy; he just wants to create food that is packed full of flavour, incredibly delicious and memorable. The menu is seasonal with fresh produce sourced locally wherever possible. Some items are even sourced from their own kitchen garden or foraged from their extended backyard – the Mornington Peninsula.

During the winter months you can expect to see pairings like beef, cauliflower and mushrooms finished with red wine jus; while dessert may highlight home- grown quince with spiced pain perdu, ginger ice cream and Peninsula honey.

The specials menu may even feature produce grown from neighbours, who bring in their extra fruit, veggies and herbs for Stuart to experiment with. Whatever is on the menu you’ll be sure to find the perfect pairing for it amongst the formidable wine list.

Vinofiles will find themselves absorbed in the comprehensive and well researched wine list that focuses on pinot noir and chardonnay from around the world. The list is the creation of Martin and Sommelier, Jacques Savary de Beauregard, and contains more than 400 wines. Still, when you’re dining with views of the vineyard it’s hard to go past a drop squeezed from the very grapes you’re looking at. Ten Minutes By Tractor’s single vineyard Wallis Chardonnay is guaranteed to satisfy and remains true to its distinctive terroir.

For a fine dining restaurant, the atmosphere at Ten Minutes by Tractor is quite laid back. While there is still a touch of formality, you can relax and enjoy a fun dining experience with friends.
