Set in a panoramic, true-waterfront location, a haven where dolphins sometimes feed within metres of customers and boats bob in the water as waves ripple up against the banks of the restaurant.   The Rocks Mornington has established itself as one of the Mornington Peninsula’s   finest food institutions, sought after by both locals and those visiting from afar.

A son of migrant restaurateurs, Robert De Santis, the owner, has his roots tied to the Mornington Peninsula. Raised and educated in the local community, his family since the early 1970s has run several restaurants in the region, all having their own acclaim.

After a short stint in Melbourne after completing University, Robert returned to the peninsula with his wife Lisa, to start and raise their own family. Together they opened The Rocks in 2001.

With a menu that naturally encompasses a modern seafood focus, due to its waterfront location. Executive Chef of 6 years, Xavier Nailty, has been using his modern approach to classical cooking to continually achieve annual recognition and accolades in various publications, including the Age Good Food Guide. The restaurants biggest accolade as Robert states is ” that due to the support our customers, local community, and team, the restaurant even after 12 years is still as strong as ever, others have come and gone, while The Rocks becomes a stronger Mornington Peninsula destination point”.

The menu sources a lot of locally caught fish and calamari from Mornington beaches and Western Port Bay and usually offers at least six types of fresh fish, an array of crustaceans, housed live in saltwater tanks, as well as oysters and mussels sourced only meters from their front doorstep.

The front of house team, led by manager, Marco Munafo, is sharp and efficient. The team strives to only assist the natural course of events one experiences when presented with this beauty of a vista along with the freshness of the food presented. Unobtrusive service would be a suitable description.

The Rocks also works in conjunction with the Mornington Yacht Club, catering to its culinary needs. The Clubs private function room facilities are available to both members and non-members, ideal for family celebrations.

This is a venue where the food is as fresh as the seaside air and as Robert said, “The rocks is not our venue, but more the community’s.”
