Overlooking the snow-fed Ovens River in the heart of Victoria’s High Country comes an award-winning brewery making beers that bring people together, and tell a story of the region in which they were created.
Scott Brandon founded the brewery in 2005 and a year later brewed his first beer under the name, Bright Brewery. From very humble beginnings – a tiny brewery with only two tin sheds and a small bar – the property grew, and today it includes seating for 350 beer enthusiasts and a terrace that can be enjoyed rain, hail or shine.
Scott is passionate about Bright and the active and adventurous lifestyle that the High Country offers. He strives to inject a sense of adventure into each and every beer he creates. Each beer is brewed by hand, using fresh mountain water, the best local ingredients and craft-brewing techniques to create something truly special. Scott also ensures that none of the beers use preservatives or processed ingredients.
All of the beers brewed at Bright Brewery can be enjoyed at the property. Renovations to the original building have resulted in the creation of a multipurpose, all-weather venue, featuring an impressive Hop Terrace so customers can enjoy the beers all year round. The terrace also provides space for live music acts, with a dedicated bandstand a racting regular local and touring artists.
The brewery offers an extensive menu of dishes that are designed to complement the beers. Nibble on a Chicky Chicky pizza – Penang chicken, pumpkin, spinach, pineapple and mozzarella – with a side of brewery malt-salted fries as you taste your way through the beers on the 24-tap bar.
For a crisp and refreshing beer, try the Belgian-style Razor Witbier. This delicately balanced white beer is light and drinkable and its low bitterness provides the perfect accompaniment to the brewery’s crisp buttermilk chicken.
For a more decadent beer, opt for the Staircase Porter. This dark ale blends dark roasted and caramel malts, paying tribute to the great beer brewing traditions of London. It’s paired perfectly with the brewery’s jam-packed steak sandwich.
Scott is focused on leaving a minimal impact on the earth and this extends to the brewery, the roof of which is completely covered by solar panels, allowing it to be completely independent from the electricity grid.
The brewery hosts tours and tastings three times a week, as well as a ‘Brewer For A Day’ program, which shows guests the basics of brewing beer and allows them a chance to try it for themselves.
Bright Brewery is a truly beautiful place; set in the magical high country of Victoria, the brewery offers a chance for customers to soak up the wonder of the region, while enjoying a range of craft beers brewed just metres away and food offerings inspired by the beers and the surroundings.
