Located just one hour’s drive from Melbourne is Peninsula Gourmet Emporium, a boutique produce store stocking a range of local goods for individual sale or within a personalised hamper.
The Emporium was born as a result of Kym and Ted Smirnoff’s love of the Mornington Peninsula region and the remarkable produce it fosters. At a dinner party one night, the couple were discussing local produce with friends and came to the conclusion that there was a gap in the market for gift hampers filled with gourmet Mornington Peninsula produce. This saw the establishment of their first business, Hamperyourself. In 2007 the business grew to include a retail store – Peninsula Gourmet Emporium – that showcases a range of beautiful local produce alongside the hampers.
While this is their first venture, Kym has many years of retail experience, having worked as a buyer for David Jones in the past. She oversees buying at the Emporium and sources products by visiting local markets and chatting to talented providores around the region. Ted helps manage the day-to-day running of the store as well as providing expert taste testing of all potential products.
The convenient and unique establishment has been successful in bringing the nest Mornington Peninsula products together under the one roof. This includes local jams, cheeses, olive oils, condiments, gluten-free goods, teas, spices and confectionery.
In addition to local produce, the store also offers an exquisite selection of soaps, moisturisers and beauty products, as well as scented candles, oil burners and diffusers from local artisan businesses.
The store, in the heart of the Mornington Peninsula, offers tastings of the local produce and allows customers to purchase these goods individually, create your own personalised hamper, or purchase a ready-made hamper in store
Each hamper is a work of art, carefully constructed to reflect the diversity of the region. If you are buying for a budding masterchef, opt for the Let’s Get Cooking hamper, with Red Hill kitchen jam, Elfred’s onion and red wine marmalade and kasundi, Zac & Jac’s dukkah, Red Hill Kitchen raspberry vinegar, Red Hill Spice Girls rub and more.
If pampering is on the cards, you can’t go past the aptly named Pamper Yourself, which includes a range of beauty tools, an Olieve salt scrub, body butter, homemade soap and massage bar, as well as a box of Peninsula Fudge.
Each ready-to-go hamper is conveniently gift-wrapped and includes a gift card, perfect for last minute gift buying. With sales available online and in store, there is really no excuse not to give the gift of the peninsula.
Peninsula Gourmet Emporium offers the best of the Mornington Peninsula under the one roof. From individual jars of jams, olives and chutneys to bags of muesli and fudge, the store offers something for every occasion and showcases a range of truly beautiful products made in the local region.
