Little Creatures Brewery Geelong

Little Creatures Brewing was born out of the love of great beer shared by a few good mates. Needless to say the Little Creatures team is very proud of its not-so-little home in Geelong’s old Valley Worsted Wool Mill, where they welcome visitors from near and far into the wonderful world of Creatures.
Disused and dormant for many years, the site was transformed into a brewery, not only saving the historic building from demolition but maintaining the integrity of the art deco mill. The refurbishment has even given old concrete mixers a second life as sandpits and flowerbeds. Not underestimating the size of the working brewery, key locations are signposted, with bicycles on-hand to get you there.
Our suggestion: head straight for the Canteen, a huge space dwarfing its two 40-foot containers that house the bar and kitchen. Grab a big share table if you’ve got a crew with you, or a booth for something a bit more cozy. Then, before you do anything else, grab a beer.
Little Creatures first won our tastebuds with its delicate pale ale: a refreshing, distinctly bitter ale with bag-loads of whole hop flowers thrown into the mix, intense citrus and stone fruit flavours and a smooth finish from local pale malts.
Similarly, its approachable bright ale has captured the hearts of many a beer drinker, with its woody, green and floral notes offering a bit more bite. If you’re keen to sample some new flavours, try the earthy and bitter North German-style pilsner or go all out with a pint of the powerful IPA that delivers big, rugged hop flavours with subtle aniseed notes.
As the winter months roll around, opt for the rich toffee and malt flavours of the Rogers, an English-style amber ale, named for Australian brewing icons Roger Bailey and Roger Bussell.
As easy as it would be to forget the food in the face of such delicious beers, Little Creatures’ kitchen offers a mouth-watering menu designed for sharing. Enjoy your beer alongside one of the signature oven-fired pizzas, boasting moreish toppings such as broccolini with Italian sausage and taleggio, or spiced lamb, zucchini and goat’s cheese. There are also sliders, salads and frites to complement your beer choices.
The brewery complex also incorporates White Rabbit Beer’s Barrel Hall (pictured opposite: bottom right), a cellar-door-style venue relocated from Healesville in 2015. Open to the public, you’ll be able to see its industry-leading barrel ageing in action, as well as sampling its beer and food. Keen to show off its achievements, Little Creatures also provides guided tours and beer masterclasses for those eager to explore the 20,000-litre brewery.
If you’ve ever pondered what Little Creatures means, the team has let us in on its secret: it’s a tribute to the thousands of invisible yeasts who furiously turn sugars into alcohol to bring us their famous beer!
Whether you’re a beer enthusiast or simply looking to while the afternoon away over a pint, Little Creatures has a beer for you. Immerse yourself in the high-spirited atmosphere of the Canteen and the buzzing activity of the brewery. Little Creatures is on its way to becoming a Geelong landmark of its own.
