For more than 100 years, the Tulloch family has been dedicated to producing quality Hunter Valley wines.
As a result, Tulloch Wines has established itself as a brand synonymous with the superiority and consistency that remains central to a Hunter Valley experience.
Tulloch Wines was established by John Younie Tulloch in 1895 after he accepted an unusual settlement of a debt – a 35-acre property at Pokolbin that contained five acres of neglected shiraz vines. John set about rejuvenating these vines, starting the proud family tradition that continues today.
After being sold in the late 1960s, the winery has returned to the hands of the Tulloch family and is now run by John Younie (Jay) Tulloch and his youngest daughter Christina.
The award-winning winery sources grapes from premium vineyards throughout the lower and upper Hunter as well as independent growers further afield, with a particular emphasis on verdelho.
However, the selection doesn’t stop there. Tulloch produces varietals known throughout the Hunter, including semillon, chardonnay and shiraz, together with other limited releases available from the Cellar Door. It aims to produce premium wine styles that appeal to all generations through a number of ranges, such as the Tulloch, Cellar Door Release, Heritage and Vineyard Selection. All of these wines can be sampled in one of the beautiful spaces at Tulloch Wines’ stunning Cellar Door.
Try the flagship red – the Hector Limited Release Shiraz, a typical expression of the famed elegance of Hunter Valley shiraz. This small-batch wine is made only in exceptional vintages using premium fruit from some of the region’s most historical vineyards. With flavours of blackcurrant and plum, this red is perfectly matched to roasted red meats or chocolate treats.
For something a little different, try the vibrant Verscato. With a low alcohol content and a blush pink colour, this slightly sweet wine can only be described as fun. Made from verdelho, this wine delivers aromas of violets, rose petals and Turkish delight. Vibrant and refreshing on the palate, the inviting spritzy finish lends itself to pairings with light, summery desserts.
Tulloch is regarded as the leading producer of verdelho in the Hunter, with its range showcasing five different styles. The suitability of the varietal to the Hunter and its versatility and approachable style make the drops crowd favourites.
Sample the range of wines, or purchase a bottle or two at the Cellar Door, which offers a bar for a quick peruse or larger rooms with luxurious furnishings for a more relaxed experience. With a blazing wood fire inside during winter and a balcony where customers can soak up the sunshine in summer, the Cellar Door caters for every occasion.
The philosophy behind Tulloch Wines is drink better, a phrase that means more than just producing excellent wine. It means creating the best possible experience for customers by providing them with superior service, value and hospitality.
After more than 100 years, the family owned business continues to provide this service to customers, consistently producing wines that embody the Hunter Valley wine experience.
