Sprout Dining had a similar beginning to many sprouts – it was planted with love so that it could grow and thrive. With passion, hard work and dedication, Jacqueline and Tom Brown nurtured their seed, Sprout Dining, until it transformed into the dining destination it is today.
Jacqueline and Tom first launched Sprout Dining back in 2008, when they bought the Bar Beach Bowling Club in Merewether, transforming it into a successful restaurant. In mid 2015, the creative couple took their well established business to the iconic Crown and Anchor Hotel down the road.
This most recent incarnation of Sprout Dining has become known for its seasonal, modern fare with frequent Mediterranean influences. The menu is simple and pared back but has many fine dining qualities, something that speaks volumes of the experience and talent of the award-winning chefs behind the fare.
Jacqueline and Tom are both impressive chefs in their own right, with experience at hatted restaurants in Sydney and renowned restaurants in London. It was during their time in the UK that they learned the skills and techniques that make Sprout Dining synonymous with quality, great taste and exceptional presentation.
The menu changes daily based on the best produce available from local markets, farmers and suppliers, meaning it is consistently fresh and seasonal. As much as possible is made in-house, allowing Jacqueline and Tom complete control over even the most simple elements.
Start your Sprout experience with a delectable entree of baked figs served with blue cheese, soft polenta and crisp Serrano ham; or the spanner crab tagliatelle with chilli, tomato and basil.
Once your tastebuds are tingling, move onto the daily selection of mains, which could include melt-in-your-mouth gnocchi with roast pumpkin, walnuts and spinach; pan-seared duck breast served with roast cherries, beetroot and confit kipfler potatoes; or a more traditional roast lamb rump and shoulder with peas, Brussels sprouts and bacon.
If you can squeeze in dessert, the steamed chocolate pudding with crunchy chocolate soil and chestnut ice cream may just be on the menu. If something a little lighter is more up your alley, try the meringue. Served with lemon curd, banana, pineapple, passionfruit and coconut sorbet, it is the perfect way to cleanse your palate.
The restaurant offers an excellent range of cocktails and an extensive wine list made up of Australian and French wines to perfectly match these delicious dishes. Coffee is also available courtesy of Merlo, while loose leaf tea from local supplier, Neat Jane’s Tea is brewed upon request.
The space itself is relaxed, warm and homely. Timber and exposed brick feature on many of the walls, while various shades of white and grey adorn others. Large, white feature windows add to the laidback vibe, making you feel more at home than ever imagined.
Sprout Dining offers a beautiful, pared back dining experience. With seating on the balcony offering harbour views for leisurely lunches, or candlelit tables inside for a romantic dinner, Sprout is bound to infatuate all who enter its doors.
