Snuggled into the eastern Blue Mountains, Restaurant Como is a quiet gem serving up unrivalled excellence and down-to-earth service.
Inspired by relationships with local growers and producers, the considered degustation menu changes according to the season, allowing humble food to shine.
Grant and Rachel Farrant were driven to create a restaurant that would allow them to share their deep love of food and wine. In 2004 they did just, that and Restaurant Como opened its doors. The name was chosen to honour Grant’s incredibly meaningful food experiences during his time living and working in Lake Como, Italy. His time there, along with his chef travels around Australia, was spent learning how to source and prepare seasonal local produce, making what he does at Restaurant Como so special.
Rachel has extensive knowledge working in fine dining restaurants and hotels. Her ability to deliver impeccable yet unobtrusive front-of-house service creates a unique dining experience. Grant’s passion for cooking coupled with Rachel’s commitment to creating memorable experiences is clear in every element of Restaurant Como.
The degustation menu is a showcase of Grant’s technical mastery, and produce is sourced primarily from the Mountains and local growers within the region to champion local flavours. You’ll find dishes such as crab, apple, crisp prawn, soy pearls and macadamia; roast 48-hour Kobe beef cheek, burnt onion, Dutch carrot and vanilla gnocchi; and seared scallops with prosciutto-wrapped chicken rillettes, cauliflower, lemon and curry.
The food is prepared with immense care, and presented with incredible attention to detail. What appears on the plate in front of you is an imaginative exploration of food, arranged with creativity and consideration.
To match such an incredible menu, Rachel offers expert wine pairings with each dish. While the emphasis is on local vineyards, Restaurant Como doesn’t shy away from international wines, and offers a diverse range from Australia and beyond. The wine selections work in conversation with Grant’s amazing food creations to create an outstanding food experience.
To complete the meal, exciting desserts such as chocolate, coconut, and passionfruit are available. As a complement, Restaurant Como proudly uses locally produced, artisanal Margans coffee from Emu Heights.
It’s no wonder that Restaurant Como is a consistent winner of the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide awards. It has all the elements of elegant fine dining, but its calm atmosphere and energy grounds the dining experience firmly within the heart and soul of the Blue Mountains. Restaurant Como’s unexpected location allows for its food to be the true focus. Dining here is like dining at home among good friends.
Grant and Rachel are artists in their ability to create an inspired celebration of food. Grant’s passion and technical skills show through the explosions of flavour in each bite of his impeccably presented dishes. Add to this Rachel’s personalised, knowledgeable service, and Restaurant Como is an experience not to be missed.
