  • Take-home Fresh Produce

Walking through Berry it’s hard to ignore the delicious aroma wafting out of South Coast Providores.

A life-long passion for food has taken Julie Webb to all corners of the globe, finally landing in Berry. Through her travels she has learnt about diverse cultures and the powerful role food plays in people’s lives.

While living in Sydney, Julie’s enduring love of food became professional: she and her husband, Geoff, owned and operated Headmaster’s Gallery Restaurant for 10 years. When they moved to Berry back in 2004, they started producing jars of marinated baby figs and dukkah under the Far Meadow Lodge label. Both products were a hit, and soon they were selling in gourmet outlets all over Australia.

In 2016 Julie and Geoff had the chance to take over South Coast Providores and seized the opportunity with both hands. Not only did this allow the pair more face-to-face time with those who loved their products, it also gave them the space to expand their repertoire.

In addition to the marinated baby figs, their growing range of chutneys, relishes and conserves have helped build a loyal following. One of the secrets to Julie and Geoff’s continued success is the clean bill of ingredients: there is nothing your grandmother would not recognise in their products, as absolutely no preservatives or additives are used.

As you walk into South Coast Providores, the first thing you’ll notice is the aroma coming from the kitchen. It’s home to both an ever-changing array of seasonal conserves, chutneys and condiments, as well as take-home meals. There’s no set menu, just a rotating selection of Julie’s famous home-cooked meals that take advantage of the abundance of seasonal produce in the region.

Depending on the day, you might find some homemade sausage rolls, the perfect match for a bottle of Julie’s tomato relish. During winter, gourmet beef or chicken pies with a gorgeous chutney on the side are the perfect take-home dinner, but there’s also a large range of gluten-free and vegetarian options.

If you need something for dessert, South Coast Providores has you covered – there’s always a tasty selection of cakes and puddings, many of them gluten free. If you’re after a sweet nibble to get you through the day, try a piece of homemade rocky road or a buttery melting moment.

For special occasions it’s hard to go past a gift hamper full of handmade delights, including the now-famous marinated baby figs. Picnic hampers can also be arranged, stocked with lunch, a few snacks and a sneaky sweet treat or two – perfect for gourmet foodies as they explore the surrounds of Berry.

If all of this delectable home-style gourmet produce has inspired you to return to the kitchen, Julie also runs cooking classes where she teaches you how to expand and revitalise your go-to menus, often using her beloved Thermomix. This is paired with an invaluable collection of cooking tips, ensuring you return to your own kitchen armed with all the right tricks of the trade.

A generosity of spirit and a passion for good food are the hallmarks of South Coast Providores. Whether you’re after a quick take-home meal, a gift of gourmet food or a memento of your trip, South Coast Providores will provide you with the perfect tasty solution.
