Tucked away between the tropical rainforests and long stretches of white sandy beaches of far north Queensland, Silky Oaks Lodge sits on quite possibly some of the area’s most prime real estate. Nestled on the banks of the Mossman River, this beautiful retreat is just a short drive to the famous Daintree Rainforest and the beautiful beaches of nearby Port Douglas and Cooya Beach.

A visit to Silky Oaks offers guests the opportunity to completely entangle themselves in the beauty of the iconic World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest and relax in a unique and luxurious eco-lodge. A resort of this calibre in such an exclusive location would be incomplete without a dining experience to match.

Thanks to a recent refresh of the interiors, Silky Oaks’ restaurant boasts stunning, bespoke furniture and custom-designed interiors that showcase beautiful Australian hardwoods and local materials. The space itself is in a spectacular open-air treehouse sitting amongst the treetops at birds’ nest height, surrounded by old mango trees and other spectacular natives. The Silky Oaks restaurant is a breathtaking experience for those who have never witnessed the true spectacle of the Daintree. Note though that the dining room is open to everyone but must be booked by external guests beforehand, and it is not open to walk-ins.

The kitchen’s ingredients come directly from the surrounding rainforest and nearby Atherton Tablelands, which both offer a plentiful supply of biodynamic and organic produce. Native fruits, local meats, seafood and a wealth of other local goodies are delivered to the restaurant every day by farmers and suppliers within a small radius of Silky Oaks. The lodge’s Head Chef, Miles Kelly, relies on the bounty of local produce that enters his kitchen to create a refined modern Australian menu that is enhanced with an Asian twist. Dishes take shape around beautiful fresh proteins such as Daintree barramundi, kangaroo or king cobia.

Try the Daintree Barramundi Curry with steamed jasmine rice, coriander and fresh lime or the King Kobia fish with gnocchi, flaked almonds, mussels, crisp prosciutto, spring onion, salsa verde with a matching wine from the list of selections from around Australia or a glass of French champagne.

With jungle perch, turtles and the odd platypus swimming in the river below, and bright Ulysses butterflies and an abundance of native birds up in the treetops with you, you will quickly see that this is a very special venue. Come night-time, the dining room transforms into a glowing beacon, lit with 100 lanterns and candles and the quiet hum of nature filling the air.

The lodge was originally designed to be naturally integrated with the lush, natural surroundings, meaning guests engage with the environment and local community throughout their stay. Access to private rainforest walking trails and swimming holes just a stone’s throw from the lodge, personalised Daintree safari tours, and specialist treatments at Silky Oaks’ own Healing Waters Spa, are just a few of the perks guests can enjoy during their stay.
