Commanding a position at the entrance of Hastings Street, amidst Noosa’s famous boulevard of lights, is Rococo. Dine al fresco to the sounds from the piano bar, enjoy contemporary Italian cuisine, and sip on a vintage wine or Champagne and watch the foot traffic waltz by.
More than 100,000 visitors each year flock to hear the in-residence artists performing each evening and to soak up the atmosphere. Created by owner Richard Pace, Rococo plays an important role in giving Hastings Street the ambience and vitality you expect to find in this sub tropical tourist mecca. Rococo is set almost entirely outside, under a canopy of shady trees, and on a warm Noosa evening you will find locals and visitors mingling well into the night.
Executive Chef, Lance Elliot McKenzie’s contemporary Italian cuisine perfectly suits the climate and showcases the region’s finest produce. The menu focuses on clean, fresh Italian flavours, with an emphasis on traditional cooking methods presented in a contemporary way. Lance believes that nothing is better than fresh produce kept closest to its natural form. What’s better than freshly caught fish, drizzled with olive oil and served with locally grown tomatoes and herbs? Enjoying it on a balmy evening under the stars while listening to the magical sounds of classic jazz standards, and looking out onto, or sitting on vibrant Hastings Street is an unforgettable experience.
For dinner, start with the Half Shell Scallops, with marsala reduction, confit orange and crisp pancetta; or the pepper seared Carpaccio of beef with parmesan, chive and truffle oil. You can’t go wrong by following that with the roasted lobster tail, baby prawn, lemon and green-pea risotto and buerre blanc; or the porchetta, slow-roasted suckling pig, Pedro Ximinez black sherry, gorgonzola, baked apples and quince with crackling. Some local tomato, Buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil and olive oil is the perfect accompaniment to this slice of Italy on the Noosa front.
Richard has come from a hotel and restaurant-owning family and has been soaking up knowledge and passion from an early age. Rococo is his third major venture in the restaurant business and is a great representation of what you would expect to find in one of the top holiday destinations of the world.
Finish off your meal with the chocolate fondant, with poached Eumundi strawberries and vanilla bean ice cream; or the roasted rhubarb, white chocolate mousse, rhubarb jelly and pistachio cake. The wine list is extensive, with a great selection of dessert wines and fortified wines too.
Visitors to the area must include a Rococo event in their trip. Join the locals for the iconic Rococobana Beach in the summer or the headlining acts of the Noosa Jazz Festival in spring. With catering for up to 350 people, Rococo is also ideal for large events as well as intimate dinners or cocktails by the grand piano.
For a vibrant atmosphere, a relaxed and casually sophisticated vibe, exceptional service and an unforgettable dining experience, you know where to go.
