Built on love, Delfina’s Bistro is inspired by a passion for food, family and a good glass of red.
The Modern Australian all-day restaurant is owned by Fresh Events & People – a family-based business consisting of Jeff Wood, Kellie-Ann Ashton, their five children, and Michael O’Brien and Anthony Gillespie.
The concept was created in memory of Kellie-Ann’s grandmother, from whom the venue’s name is also derived. Delphine May Ashton installed a passion and dedication of food in Kellie-Ann, so she could think of no better way to honour her legacy than spreading a little bit of culinary magic to the people of Brisbane.
To do this, the team recruited Head Chef Matthew Ostrenski. Having cut his teeth at Melbourne’s Vue de Monde, he later moved up north. When Michael and Kellie-Ann opened Delfina’s, Matthew was the perfect choice to dish up fine dining fare in a casual environment.
Start the day with a hearty cassoulet – pork sausage, chorizo, confit duck, cannellini beans, cornbread, poached eggs and hollandaise, or for something a little more classic, the French toast with saffron-poached pineapple, blueberries, cottage cheese and honey.
If you’re thinking about a longer – or boozier – brunch, keep it fully charged with the Boozy Coffee – iced coffee with spiced rum and Tia Maria finished with whipped cream and dark chocolate shavings, or the Good Morning Maple Bacon Smash, with Buffalo Trace bourbon, maple syrup, blood orange juice and bitters, served with a crispy strip of bacon.
As night rolls in, the delicious dishes just keep coming. Delfina’s choice of starters, small plates, large plates and meals for two ensure that no matter what level of hunger, you will be more than satisfied.
Try the ocean trout pastrami with black garlic, rye crumble and cauliflower panna cotta, or chicken breast with smoked corn risotto, marrow and watercress. Vegetarians need not worry: the sweet potato gnocchi with cocoa nib and salsa verde is just one of the lip-smackingly good options for veggie eaters.
Meals for two are tipped as the top choice, choose from the slow-cooked lamb shoulder and mustard jus, or the herb-crusted Wagyu brisket, with a side of some of the best potatoes in Brisbane: twice-cooked, with chorizo, aioli and fresh thyme.
Once your hunger is satisfied, top it off with a delectable dessert, or in the French way, an appetising cheese board. You’ll wish you could have one of everything with plates like the dark chocolate fondant with tonka caramel, hazelnut praline and milk ice cream.
Not to be outdone, Delfina’s also offers a detailed cocktail list that continues the same attention to flavour. The Delfina is made up of vanilla-infused Effen Vodka, fresh passionfuit and mandarin juice mixed over ice and served with Kellybrook Sparkling Pinot. For wine lovers, Delfina’s sources a number of boutique wines from a family owned winery too.
Delfina’s aim is to create a welcoming and comfortable environment, where everyone can feel at home with the family. The space combines sleek dark timber floors with charcoal seating and drop hanging lights in a modern, simplistic style. The front side of the bistro is lined with full-length glass windows, maximising space and allowing guests to people-watch those on the street. The friendly team caters to every need, with Delfina’s passion and values evident in all that they do.
Stop by Delfina’s Bistro for a boozy brunch or an elegant dinner. No matter the time of day, you’ll be able to find a fresh and evolving menu with a European flourish. Just like Delphine would have wanted.
