In Melbourne’s coffee world, Padre is nearing household-name status. The Brunswick-based boutique roaster has been looking after the caffeine needs of locals since 2007, brewing beans in four cafes throughout the city and supplying caffeine to countless others.

Now it’s the Sunshine Coast’s turn. Founder, Marinus Jansen, has taken his successful coffee concept way up north, introducing Queenslanders to the beauty of the blessed bean. Setting up shop in Noosaville, he has expanded on the Melbourne model of an all-in-one cafe, roastery, retail store and training space, and created a spot where locals can come and enjoy every element of the coffee experience.

Marinus and the team designed and built the space, drawing inspiration from the Melbourne venues and injecting a healthy dose of the Noosa aesthetic. The space reflects the shared focus: Padre cares not only about coffee, but the educational process, providing an unmatched look into the roasting process and supplying all the equipment a home-brewer might need.

Therefore, it’s home to a curated range of manual and espresso brewing equipment, coffee grinders and freshly roasted beans, and has lots of room for display and demonstration. The roastery, training room and technical department are also on full display, providing insight into the production side of what you’re drinking. Supported by a team of friendly and knowledgeable staff that can point any visitor in the right direction, it’s the perfect place to brush up on your coffee know-how.

So just how does Padre create a beautiful brew? The group of dedicated roasters buy the best green beans seasonally from the world’s premium growing regions, including India, Colombia and Ethiopia and Costa Rica, where they have long-lasting relationships with established growers. They are then roasted to achieve the cup quality and flavour profiles that regulars have come to know and love, resulting in beans that blow Sunshine Coast coffee drinkers away.

Just like their coffee bean suppliers, Padre also places a huge emphasis on supporting the Noosa community. Therefore, local jersey milk comes courtesy of Norco, and handmade sweets are fresh from Tanglewood organic bakery and the Eumundi Food Company. What’s more, Marinus and his team were instrumental in creating the Sunshine Coast Roaster’s Guild, which they hope will elevate the profile and perception of specialty coffee in the area.

With an expansion to the Sunshine Coast, Padre is spreading a love of good coffee everywhere. Stop by for a cup and a chat – you’ll walk out with more than just a latte, but a bundle of new coffee knowledge.
