Laneway Specialty Coffee
4/1 Vickers Street, Parap, Northern Territory

Darwin foodies are not at all strangers to Parap. This inner-city suburb is known by many to be bustling with hungry locals who are eager to get their laksa fix at the Parap Village Markets each weekend. However, just down the road, a slightly newer addition to the Vickers Street landscape has been attracting the masses since opening its doors back in 2014, Laneway Specialty Coffee.
Darwin was rather late to the specialty coffee game but, thanks to the superstar team of Dani and Adam Mann, along with their good friend Lisa Heames, this is now a thing of the past. One glimpse of this quaint, corner cafe and you will immediately see the appeal. If it wasn’t the huge crowds that gave Laneway away then it must be the trendy design. With polished concrete floors, an exposed brick wall and leafy green plants hanging around the room, you will struggle to remember that you are still in the steamy streets of Darwin and not a poky little Melbourne city laneway.
Lisa, Adam and Dani teamed up after noticing the hole in the Darwin market for a quality cafe that offered specialty coffee and great food, served by true hospitality professionals. All three owners are well and truly in touch with the local food scene, having worked in it for many years. Nevertheless, they spent some time down south in Sydney and Melbourne to learn what the fuss is all about when it comes to cafe culture. The result of their research is Laneway, and of course its little sister, Besser Brew Bar.
The coffee of choice at Laneway is what now seems to be a Darwin cult favourite, Campos, and how could it not be? Popular Australia wide, Campos is fair trade and produced using only sustainable and ethically sound beans. The Laneway house blend is the award-winning Superior Blend, the same as Besser.
Delicious coffee is paired with food that is just as sought after. Laneway gives people what they want with an all-day menu because we all know that there is no phrase more disappointing than that uttered to you by a waiter at 11:30 am stating, “Sorry, breakfast is over.” All the usual suspects are on the menu, hotcakes, hand-baked granola, eggs benny and, of course, a good old smashed avocado situation.
As you would imagine, the second that Laneway opened, the food-focused youngsters of Darwin flooded in, as well as a few famous faces including the likes of ARIA’s Matt Moran and even Noma’s Rene Redzepi. This venue represents so much more than this though, it is a part of a small group of venues that are paving the way for a new generation of cafes, restaurants and bars to enter the Darwin food scene, watch this space!
