Wine Republic was swift to secure its place at the forefront of Melbourne’s exemplary wine retailer scene. Hell, they even snagged the ‘Best New Company’ gong at 2015’s Australian Small Business Awards after only two years of operation.
Husband and wife, Tom O’Mara and Fiona Lim, left their careers to establish Wine Republic with a mission to connect the community with the country’s best boutique wine, beer and spirit producers. Rather than purchasing mass-produced liquor products, for the same price customers can enjoy hand-made, small production products of superior flavour and quality.
An amble through the brand spanking new High Street store in Northcote has a gallery-like feel to it and selecting a bottle is a ritual not to be rushed. The vibrant, creatively designed space stocks more than 2,000 unique wines, hundreds of artisanal spirits and 800 varieties of craft beer and cider.
It isn’t just the enormous range of wine available here and at Wine Republic’s Fitzroy store, but Wine Republic Northcote stocks the largest selection of refrigerated craft beer in Australia. “Craft beer has a limited shelf life, so keeping the bottles chilled is critical to maintaining freshness and flavour,” said Tom.
Super-knowledgeable staff are happy to steer your decision, whether your poison tends to wine, beer, cider, gin, rum, whatever – they’ve got it and they know it well.
Local artists, designers and illustrators shaped Wine Republic’s design (which is also lavished with awards), resulting in a space teeming with Northcote’s signature polished grit.
