There’s really nothing we love more than a restaurant name with a great pun involved, however, when that restaurant dishes out mouthwatering food and inventive cocktails to match, that is a whole other story!
Welcome Seoulja (pronounced soldier) Boy, the CBD’s newest Korean haunt. Setting up shop in a prime Bourke Street location, just around the corner from Market Lane, this funky Korean restaurant is packing a whole lot of punch. The man at the helm is Benny Liu, who, after a decade in the club industry, has turned away from the DJ booth towards the dining booth, and the results are pretty damn delightful.
Settling yourself in for a night at Seoulja Boy is certainly a party in itself! The extensive dining room boasts a party like atmosphere, lit with groovy pink neon lights and clad in black – like any good Melburnian. This trendy interior is complemented by a share style, modern Korean menu and a selection of cocktails that celebrate the restaurant’s Asian roots as well as a play on a few classics.
Start your night off by sipping on either Mo’ Money (Matcha Maiden matcha with mint, lime and soju) or Mo’ Problems (apple, yuzu and soju). From here, it is hard to ignore Seoulja Boy’s Korean Tapas menu. Snack on small bites such as the bulgogi charcoal sliders, kimchi chicken bao, kimchi sweet potato fries, tuna tataki or the kimbap taco, paired easily with either another cocktail or perhaps a few grilled skewers.
Stick around late into the evening by finishing your meal with the black rice pudding, served with coconut ice cream and a watermelon skewer. However, for those who prefer their dessert in liquid form, perhaps a Ghetto Espresso cocktail, made with fresh coffee, Kahlua and soju. Topped off with tunes that are sure to get your toe tapping before you have even considered putting your dancing shoes on, a night at Seoulja Boy is sure to please even the most hesitant of party animals.
