Ricky & Pinky Yum Cha
211 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy VIC

What better way to celebrate a lazy weekend than with Yum Cha? At Smudge, we can think of no better way – and thanks to Ricky and Pinky you can tackle a lunchtime spectacle of Yum Cha classics every Friday to Sunday.
Head Chef, ArChan Chan, has been hard at work curating a top-tier Yum Cha selection to satisfy every taste at this Fitzroy eatery. Inspired by her childhood memories of classic dim sum and dumplings, the menu will feature tried and tested favourites as well as ArChan’s own creative spin in the form of some innovative new dishes.
It should look something a little like this – a lazy Susan covered with bamboo dumpling baskets housing steaming chicken and mushroom siumai dumplings that are greedily snapped up, slathered in soy sauce and gobbled up before you can say ‘more please’. Next up you’ll be reaching for those peking duck spring rolls, with succulent roast duck straight from the onsite courtyard rotisserie. Wrap it up in a thin Chinese pancake and drizzle it with house-made hoisin sauce and you’ve got yourself a nice little package.
Large meat dishes like char sui pork are next, served with burnt honey or spicy pulled beef, complete with pillowy bao to soak up the delicious juices. Don’t be surprised when you see a few newcomers spinning around that lazy Susan, like ArChan’s own take on the traditional Chinese chicken feet dish, and even a savoury donut wrapped in rice noodles and topped with pork floss.
All this eating can be thirsty work, but the team at Ricky and Pinky have you well covered with their selection of Chinese teas made from traditional single origin leaves. For something with a bit of a kick, the Hidden Pinky cocktail should do the trick, combining white rum, passionfruit and ginger beer to match the exotic Asian tastes of the food. A range of wine, Asian beers and soft drinks are also on offer, so no glass will be left empty for too long.
Whatever the occasion, your old friends Ricky and Pinky are providing the goods – so its time to pay them a well deserved visit and get your yum cha on.
