The Meatball & Wine Bar Windsor
150 Chapel Street, Windsor, Victoria, Australia
(03) 9521 4465
There are no hidden messages behind Chapel Street’s latest offering – The Meatball & Wine Bar is renowned for its delicious meatballs and high-quality wines.
After launching in Flinders Lane in 2012, owner Matteo Bruno opened a second location in Swan Street Richmond, followed by a third on Collingwood’s Smith Street. Matteo has now headed south of the river, opening a restaurant on Chapel Street in Windsor.
At the new Windsor location, you’ll find all your favourite offerings alongside a few newbies. As well as classic dishes including the giant pork and veal meatball with pan-fried gnocchi in creamy red sauce, you’ll also find additional meatball options and even a rotating selection of meatball topped salads.
If you haven’t experienced The Meatball & Wine Bar before, opt for the ‘balls and all’ option. First choose your balls with beef, pork, fish and vegetarian options. Next, choose from either a classic red tomato sugo, green salsa verde or creamy white sauce. Finally, you need something for your balls to sit on, choose either pasta, polenta, vegetables, cannellini beans or potato smash.
The Meatball & Wine Bar Windsor also boasts a large selection of natural wines from Italy and Australia, complemented by a list of Italian-inspired cocktails.
The heritage listed building has had a facelift thanks to Techne Architects – the same team who designed Garden State, Prahran Hotel and Biggie Smalls. Warm lighting, marble bench tops and lush greenery complement the venue’s natural old school charm. The restaurant seats up to 60 people with a mixture of private booths, bar and outdoor seating.
The new Windsor venue is just the start of an action-packed year for The Meatball & Wine Bar. In the next few months, Matteo is set to open a butcher shop in Richmond, complete with dry-ageing facilities; The Meatball & Wine Bar Richmond will open a private dining space upstairs, and there are plenty of new venues in the works for Sydney, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide.
