“Fitzroy Social is more than a bar; it’s an experience.” These are the words of Anna Carosa-Koziora, Managing Director and co-owner of the newly opened beer hall that mixes Australian craft beer with intrigue and mythology.
The former Little Creatures Dining Hall is almost unrecognisable after months of renovations, giving diners a unique experience where art, history, food and drink meet in harmony.
In honour of the venues past, drinks are front and centre at Fitzroy Social. Copper coloured taps feature a rotating selection of beers, including local craft labels as well as a range of international favourites. Spirits also have a home at Fitzroy Social with a carefully selected range from award-winning boutique distilleries. Starward Single Malt Whisky from Essendon Fields is proudly showcased, as is West Winds “The Cutlass” Gin from Margaret River.
When it comes to stifling your rumbling stomach there are plenty of options to choose from, all perfectly matched to your brew of choice. Fitzroy Social proudly features local produce throughout its menu. Hormone-free King Island beef features in the form of both steaks and burgers. The burgers will be a hit even for those with strict dietary requirements. Gluten free, dairy free and vegan friendly burger buns are available, or if you would prefer to go bun-free the kitchen crew are happy to wrap up your patty in iceberg lettuce.
Pizzas are another classic that can be served up with allergy-friendly options. Gluten-free bases are easily arranged and the “local harvest” option will be a favourite among vegos with roasted beetroot, creamy goat’s cheese, watercress and crunchy walnuts.
If you’re just after a beer and some nibbles there are plenty of fries and sides that will go down a treat. The delicious standards are all there: shoestring fries, beer battered fries and crunchy wedges. For a gourmet bite to eat try polenta and parmesan cubes or cinnamon sweet potato chips. The perfect pairing for Buffalo wings and an icy cold beer is a gooey bowl of mac ‘n’ cheese
With Brunswick Street hardly lacking in quality watering holes, Fitzroy Social promises to standout among the crowd. Co-owner, Stewart Koziora, is determined to stay a cut above the rest stating, “our venues are about providing a great product, faster and cheaper than anyone else in that vicinity, all in a nice environment to meet friends. We want our patrons to think ‘why would I want to go anywhere else?”
To help complete the overall experience interior design was an integral part of modernising the warehouse. Fitzroy Social blends the old with the new, industrial with modern, outdoors with indoors. The wall panelling features reclaimed wood from Mornington Pier while copper detailing features throughout. An impressive hanging ceiling creates the illusion of dining under a forest canopy.
Renowned Australian artist, David Bromley, was commissioned to place the finishing touches upon the venue with five unique murals painted on-site during the renovation period.
Fitzroy Social is more than just another Brunswick watering hole; it’s the whole package.
