Specialising in modern Thai food, Easy Tiger Smith St. will capture your imagination with its specialty menu and quirky, yet homely, feel. Owners Simon Hall, Jarrod Hudson and Suzanne Tyzack met while working at Giant Steps and Innocent Bystander Winery in Healesville. Their varied backgrounds and interests led to a perfect amalgamation of talents that, in October 2010, would see them welcoming customers into their very own restaurant.
Guided by Jarrod, the Head Chef’s vision of an ideal meal, Easy Tiger embraces the notion of a celebratory dinner that has friends and family rejoicing over dishes designed to share. The partners believe that the dining table is the anchor to their success – it is a place for their customers to relax and indulge.
Located amongst former factories and warehouses that now contain trendy art spaces, studios and alternative accommodation, the ambiance at Easy Tiger will make you feel right at home. The narrow entrance opens into a sleek space with long tables perfectly complementing the restaurant’s philosophy of balance. Travel through the open kitchen and you will find yourself in their heated, covered courtyard. The smell of mirbau timber, as well as drifts of incense and coconut, will transport you to a tropical climate, even as the rain of winter in Melbourne pours down around you.
The fresh, inventive menu showcases modern Thai food with the distinct flavours of hot and sour, rich and creamy, and fresh and aromatic. The experience starts with Street Food like Betel Leaf with tea-smoked scallop, fresh coconut, peanuts and fried shallot or Shitake, wombok (a Chinese cabbage with a sweet, mild flavour and crunchy texture), and water chestnut bean skin roll with chilli jam. And this is only the beginning. The Rice Courses offer an exquisite array of choices, with anything from Coconut braised Sher Wagyu beef shin from Wallan in Victoria, to steamed tofu, coconut and cashew salad with chilli jam dressing.
Easy Tiger prides itself on creating the perfect dining experience, from the food, the drinks list, and exceptional culinary service. They want your experience to be memorable for all the right reasons, and your waiter will be able to help or make recommendations about the food as required. You will find the drinks menu features an array of Single Vineyard wines and assorted beers from Victoria and throughout Australia. There are also a number of cocktail choices.
Make sure you save room for dessert. The Monsieur truffle chocolate and pandanus dumplings with melon and salted coconut cream will leave you counting the days until you come back for more.
