Nestled on the outskirts of Melbourne’s CBD is one of the city’s largest, spacious and most natural yoga studios, just ready and waiting to help you take your practice to a new level.
The Yoga Place sits just 100 metres west of the Queen Victoria Market, in a beautiful heritage building that dates back to 1875. Once a light industrial factory, it is now an expansive, open-plan studio, which features New York style exposed brick walls with plenty of natural light, as well as a rooftop where you can overlook the beautiful city.
Chris Addison and Janine Barron are the team behind the business. Having fallen in love with yoga in his hometown in New Zealand, Chris poured this passion into the establishment of a studio. As a Reiki Master and regular practitioner of yoga and meditation for over 20 years, Janine was perfectly placed to join Chris on this adventure. Her background in digital marketing and advertising, as well as training in gymnastics and ballet, was a bonus!
The Yoga Place is the meeting point of the couple’s passion and experience. Within its walls, an expert team of nurturing and passionate teachers take you on a journey of self-discovery and growth, with a range of classes suitable for every level of ability. The entire team is happy to share their extensive knowledge to help you optimise your alignment and build on your skills, as well as developing your pranayama.
With more than 32 classes running each week, it’ll be an cinch to find a class that suits your exercise style and timetable. Join an invigorating Vinyasa class to restore your energy levels, or opt for a Slow Flow, where you can take your time working deeply into your stretches and breathwork.
It’s a reflective class that will encourage you to find stillness in each posture. If you enjoy a slow, restful practice, bliss out in the Yin session with sound healing – a restorative class using props to seriously stretch out weary or stiff muscles, accompanied by the tranquil sounds of singing bowls. Round off the week with Sunday night meditation to start your Monday relaxed and ready.
The Yoga Place’s communal spaces create a friendly supportive environment where you can truly relax. The studio also incorporates a healing centre, led by Janine, which offers Reiki healing and Chakra balancing to complement your yoga practice.
Chris and Janine like to say that one class a week is a taste, two classes a week is maintenance and three classes a week is transformative. With such a calming studio space and an abundance of experienced teachers to help you take your practice to the next level, we’re tempted to agree.
