Think back to those days as a kid when exercising was a form of sheer enjoyment rather than a pesky chore. Thanks to boutique fitness studio, PITFIT, those feel-good childhood memories can be relived through their unique way of making fitness fun.
When you walk into the studio, you can leave the serious approach at the door; “laughter is as important as sweat”, according to its owner, Josh Piterman. PITFIT is Josh’s nickname so it seemed fitting that it became the title of his studio, which opened its doors in 2014. It offers a creative and exciting approach to burning calories and in the process, working towards a fantastic body that not only looks good, but also moves, performs and functions brilliantly. In this way, PITFIT prides itself on being the antithesis of a gym.
The studio is designed to look more like a playground than a sweat house. The friendly space is filled with colourful equipment and blackboards adorned with feel-good quotes.
While PITFIT models its classes on the idea of running around like a kid, some of the equipment is a little more advanced than you’d see at a playground. The team uses the likes of barbells, kettlebells, TRX, powerbags and ViPR to keep things varied and make working out a little more fun. Whatever class you’re doing, be prepared to move – most sessions focus on integrated movement over isolated muscle training.
There are plenty of options when it comes to how you want to train, with small group classes and semi-private training available if you like the idea of sweating it out with a bit of company. There are also personal training sessions for those who like the one-on-one experience.
The team that makes up this fun-loving fitness school all share the same passion and belief that getting active shouldn’t be a dreaded task. But all silliness aside, the PITFIT instructors are also certified beyond the levels of your average personal trainer, ensuring that you are under the guidance of truly knowledgeable professionals.
Josh is the captain of the team and works on strengthening your overall performance. One of the perks of getting fit is gaining lean muscle, and strength master, Lucas Barker, has that covered. Brenton Cosier is the functional movement whiz and will have you moving around the room from the word ‘go’, while Talia Pranskunas is the functional fitness specialist. A holistic approach to feeling well also includes eating the right things, so Georgie Gorman will make sure you are fuelling your body with the best nutrients.
If you find it a little bit harder to get motivated about exercise, take it back to the playground with PITFIT. With a fun-filled environment just begging to be used, you’ll be fitter, stronger and leaner in no time.
