A refuge for caffeine-loving locals just west of Melbourne’s inner-city bustle, Morris + Heath is a place where a coffee isn’t just your morning pick me up; it’s an all-encompassing experience.
After establishing several successful cafes east of Melbourne, hospitality gurus Monique and Michelle Moussi wanted to expand into the comparatively untapped westside. Their attention to detail at much-loved cafes Miss Frank and 30 Mill Espresso, is carried through to the fit-out and fare at Morris + Heath, which opened in 2016.
A beautifully designed interior from the team at Ritz & Ghougassian pairs huge windows with spotted gum panelling, linear timber battens and double height ceilings to create a light, airy space with a warm atmosphere. It’s a welcome respite for locals in Hoppers Crossing, rewarding visitors with expertly made espresso.
Manager, Reece Lane, has always loved making and drinking coffee, developing a real appreciation for what goes into making a great cup. From sourcing the green beans, roasts and grinds, weighing and timing every shot, right through to texturing the milk and pouring consistent latte art; for Reece, each part of the process inspires him to explore the world of coffee further and constantly improve the final product.
Morris + Heath uses a custom, house blend, roasted by Dimattina Coffee, to bring out the best flavours in milk-based coffee. Using carefully selected, highest seasonal grade Arabica beans sourced from Brazil, Papua New Guinea, Colombia and India, the flavour is smooth, with an aromatic hint of spice, a rich chocolatey flavour and a velvety texture with a sweet honey finish.
Single origin beans from all over the world are also sourced from Proud Mary to create rich black coffees and batch brew. Tap into the staff’s extensive knowledge and they’ll be able to talk you through the blends – you might even find a new favourite.
If the Morris + Heath team aren’t making coffee, drinking it, or teaching others about it, chances are they’re brushing up on their knowledge of the subtleties and variables of premium coffee. If hunger sets in, refuel with the all-day
If hunger sets in, refuel with the all-day menu, which features refreshing takes on several Melbourne brunch classics. Head Chef, Shane Tidy, plays with subtle hints of American and Asian cuisine to create fresh and beautifully balanced fare. Tuck into tasty dishes like lemon, poppyseed and ricotta hotcakes; chilli scrambled eggs with bacon and Vietnamese mint; or pan-seared salmon.
Specialty coffee fans in the west have found a new local in the form of Morris + Heath, where sleek design meets superb brews.
