Located in the unassuming suburb of Niddrie, Mister Hoffman has turned what was once an old strip of shops into a bright and inviting dining destination. Owners, Dean and Petra, opened the cafe in late 2015 and quickly fostered a cafe community with a steady and loyal customer base. It’s the kind of place where the baristas and front of house staff know the returning regulars, friends and families gather and new friendships are formed over each brewed cup.

Mister Hoffman prides itself on a closeknit team that has mostly been with the business since its inception. As a result, every employee takes real pride in the cafe, ensuring the standard is kept high across the board. Just one of these team members is Head Barista, Kylie McPherson. She started her career as a chef but soon found herself managing a cafe in Geelong. After filling in for absent baristas, she developed a passion for coffee, which was only heightened upon moving to Melbourne. Kylie is joined by Simon James French, who manages the day-to-day operations. Previously a teacher, Simon travelled to Melbourne to learn how to make coffee. He never left, and has worked his way up from barista to manager in just six months.
After a meticulous blind taste testing of various roasters in Melbourne, Allpress Espresso rose to the top for the Mister Hoffman crew, thanks to its standout flavours and innovative air-roasting technology. The house blend, Allpress Supremo, is punchy and bold, a blend of beans from Brazil, Colombia and Papua New Guinea. It is able to cut effortlessly throughthe creamy milk in a latte or flat white and works equally as well on its own as an espresso. There is a variety of Allpress single origins for black coffee and cold drip, plus handcrafted artisan chai from Chai Boy in Melbourne.
Bringing you a locally sourced seasonal menu inspired by memories of Dean and Petra’s grandparents’ kitchens, Mister Hoffman plates up wholesome dishes with a whole lot of respect. You’ll find all of the brunch classics here, including smashed avocado with Meredith goat’s cheese; corn, zucchini and quinoa fritters with salmon; and the Mister Benedict, with pulled pork belly and apple cider hollandaise. For lunch, there are superfood salads, burgers and plenty more.
It’s not just Mister Hoffman’s coffee and menu that attracts a regular crowd. The stunning interior complements the venue’s offerings perfectly, boasting a fresh, modern colour palette that is punctuated with vintage creature comforts. It makes even easier to sit back, relax and enjoy all that the team has to offer
