Methodist Coffee, Burwood Road, Hawthorn
03 9819 6103
There’s no denying that Melbourne’s cafe culture is verging on sacred.
Every day, coffee lovers flock to their favourite cafe to worship the blessed bean. Hawthorn locals will be ecstatic to hear there’s one more coffee temple on the move, Methodist Coffee, and it’s coming in hot.
Owner, Reuben Kindred, prides himself as a second-generation roaster, having lived and breathed coffee since an early age at his father’s roastery. After spending three years as the Head Roaster for Industry Beans, Reuben is well accustomed to the demands of Melbourne’s electric coffee scene. Now, teaming up with his mother, Nikki Kindred, formerly of Roastcraft and The Cupping Room, the duo has moved into Hawthorn for their next venture. Together they have enlisted the help of Michelin-trained Andrew Grantham, former Head Chef at Collins Street’s Bistrot d’Orsay. Don’t leave without trying his peanut butter and jelly hot cakes.
As for the space itself, the lofty two-storey space is lightened up with crisp whites, neon lights and lush greenery to tie in with its leafy residential setting. Seating is bleacher style, overlooking the coffee roastery so you can see the magic unfold right before your eyes.
Methodist Coffee takes over the coveted corner spot on the junction of Burwood Road and Launder Street. Just across from Swinburne University, the central spot is set to attract a huge range of coffee-lovers and cafe dwellers from students to residents and visitors alike.
