Good Times Milkbar
83 Tucker Road, Bentleigh VIC

What do you get when you take an old-school neighbourhood milk bar and jazz it up into one of Bentleigh’s most instagrammable locations? Good Times Milk Bar, of course.
This fresh neighbourhood cafe swung open its doors in late March with flying colours. We mean it – take one look inside at the pastel blues and powder pinks and you’ll be heading on in before you can say, I’ll have a latte.
“Everyone we speak to from this area still talks about what this Bentleigh corner store, milk bar used to be many moons ago,” says co-owner, Brent Scales.
And really – can you blame them? There’s nothing quite like remembering the good old days when you bought lollies over the counter, or a special ice cream treat on your way home from school. The old-school milk bars were somewhere the community came together to enjoy a milkshake and a sandwich, and to catch up on some local gossip.
Today, there is nothing more enjoyable than moseying over to that neighbourhood local on a Sunday morning for a coffee and scrambled eggs on toast, and that’s exactly what Good Times Milk Bar is all about.
“We wanted to take everything that evokes ‘good times’ and put it into a space, environment, mood and the food offering,” Brent says. “It made sense to call it what we did, Good Times Milk Bar.”
If you can get over the gosh-darn cute ice-cream colour scheme, the next thing to gush over would have to be the stunning, grassy courtyard outside which, might we add, welcomes four-legged friends. Does it get any better than tucking into a juicy burger and a thick shake with your pooch by your side? We think not.
Inside, all day breakfast, burgers by 11 am and Small Batch Roasting Co. coffee awaits. Worth a mention among the brekky staples are the ricotta hotcakes with berry compote, meringue crumb, vanilla ice-cream, spiced maple syrup and popping candy. If that doesn’t speak to your sweet tooth, nothing will.
For lunch, being directed towards the Meatsmith pastrami with poached eggs, dill pickle, potato waffle and sauerkraut with brown butter béarnaise is always a good idea. Throw it back with a Golden Gaytime milkshake and you’re good to go.
Good Times Milk Bar has one simple mission – good food, good vibes and of course, good times. It doesn’t get much better than that.
