Taking up a prime location on the corner of Glen Huntly and Ormond roads, A Girl Called Jayne has made Elwood’s sought-after bayside location that little bit sweeter, providing locals with the cafe they never knew they were missing.
Injecting a touch of classic Melbourne cafe culture into the bustling bayside scene, A Girl Called Jayne is a pillar of both elegance and simplicity. Owner, Anthony Cannan, is eager to reawaken the senses of A Girl Called Jayne diners, offering dishes that boast fresh, seasonal Victorian produce, paired with quality coffee.
Anthony’s right-hand man for the operation is venue manager, Yannick Beaucaine. With a CV that boasts stints at Richmond’s Noir and an abundance of top venues around France, Yannick has more than enough experience and has poured a lot of it into helping design the menu. “My aim with A Girl Called Jayne is to consistently excel in the dining experience from arrival to departure, including delivering high-quality products, service, and overall ambiance,” says Yannick.
Those who find themselves hitting up A Girl Called Jayne for their (soon to be) famous brunch can expect decadent dishes such as the brulee French toast, topping Challah Bread French toast with maple creme brulee and seasonal fruits, as well as the Pumpkin & Pumpkin, a beautiful marriage of butternut pumpkin hummus and skin on roasted Japanese pumpkin, served with roasted seeds and ajitsuke tamago egg. For those looking to sink their teeth into something a little more substantial when lunchtime rolls around, look no further than the chicken katsu burger, a beauty of a burger filled with crispy fried chicken thighs, shredded cabbage, Japanese mayo and tonkatsu sauce.
Pair any of these delicious picks with your preferred cup of coffee or even a little tipple. Twists on classic cocktails such as the Not Just Aperol Spritz and An Apple a Day are the perfect addition to an afternoon spent lounging in the sunshine in the outdoor area. However, if you aren’t much of an outdoorsy type, the interior is just as lovely, boasting a clean, sophisticated fit-out that heroes the iconic period building.
Providing a good reason to take a trip south, A Girl Called Jayne is already set become a well-loved Elwood local.
