Calling all chocoholics! Gânache Chocolate is answering all your chocolate-flavoured dreams with the introduction of high tea at their South Yarra store. Up the fancy feels with an afternoon of desserts and drinks, all revolving around the beautiful cacao bean.
Arno Backes is the head honcho at Gânache Chocolate. He realised his passion for all things sweet at the young age of 15, when he embarked on a pastry chef apprenticeship. Arno moved to London to accept a role at Marasus Petit Fours, where he refined the art of preparing handcrafted chocolates for famous establishments, including Harrods, The Ritz, The Dorchester, Glen Eagles and on occasion, the British Royal Family. Now based in Australia, Arno leads a talented team of chocolatiers who craft Australia’s biggest range of chocolates, producing 100kg of dark chocolate alone each week.
Arno’s experience in the chocolate industry has translated into superb products at Gânache, as each and every macaron, praline and brownie is perfected, down to the very last detail. All of these treats will be on offer at High Tea, alongside a multitude of savoury options. Nibble on pulled pork and cheese toasties with béchamel sauce on sourdough bread from Tivoli Road Bakery, before devouring brownie mousse slice and a selection of macarons. Equally as decadent vegetarian options are available, with mushroom quiche with goat’s cheese, leek and peas on offer, followed up by honeycomb sticks and Parisian teacake, made using honey from Gânache’s own beehive.
To finish, take in the smells and sounds of all things chocolate with Gânache’s espresso martini in hand, or a hazelnut praline filled with roasted almonds, pistachios and amarena cherries. If a cocktail isn’t on the cards, tea, coffee and hot chocolate are also on offer throughout the afternoon. High Tea takes place each day in the South Yarra chocolate lounge, with no bookings required. So waltz on in – this is one afternoon of confectionary contentedness not to be missed.
