There’s a new brunch destination on Brunswick Road that may possibly take the cake when it comes to design features that are utterly à la mode.
Designed by Kern Studio, you will find a coveted pastel colour scheme, smooth blonde wood tables and chairs, and leafy indoor plants throughout the cafe. Top this off with a large neon sign, popping out of an impressive vertical garden, stating ‘I LICKED IT, SO IT’S MINE’ and you may have just encountered one of the hippest cafes to enter the competitive Melbourne cafe scene this year.
The food stakes are high when the fitout is this impressive but the Code 21 kitchen crew does not disappoint. Each dish that enters the dining room seems to be another well thought out design feature, though unlike the neon lights and cute splashes of greenery, this stuff is actually edible. Colourful juices and smoothies, eggs benedict atop of steaming piles of pulled ham hock and decadent hotcakes topped with chocolate parfait and lemon curd fill tables, matching the poppy design features to a T.
Keeping Melburnians happy (and sane), Code 21 has ensured that the coffee offering is just as carefully curated as the food. Their regular weapon of choice is provided by local Richmond roasters, Veneziano Coffee Roasters, and it is joined by a rotating single origin roast. Whatever your coffee of choice, it can be brewed white or black with an array of milks (or mylks). Nevertheless, if you prefer un-caffeinated beverages to keep you going, Code 21 can please all health nuts with their selection of Simara blends, ranging from turmeric to beetroot or even a turmeric cocoa combo.
Without a doubt, this Brunswick Road hideaway will be the kind of place that will see queues out the door every Saturday morning very soon. Make sure you pop in and see what all the fuss is about, rest assured that each dish on the menu is just as stunning as the next, your Instagram followers will not be disappointed!
