It’s been said that we should all do at least one good deed a day, but in the midst of juggling work, social activities, exercise and so on, this is often easier said than done.Luckily, the team at Collingwood’s Co-Ground Coffee is here to help – grab a coffee from the mobile coffee van, just down from Smith Street, and rest assured that 100% of profits are put towards helping disadvantaged communities in the Asia Pacific region.
Yes, you read that right. One hundred per cent of profits.
By simply switching up your regular coffee routine and supporting the pop-up, you can help change the lives of thousands of men, women and children.
The awesome venture comes from social enterprise, Co-Ground, which was founded in the aftermath of Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu. Wanting to do something to help, the three passionate founders – Andrew Mellody, Nicole Precel and Aleksei Plinte – decided to create a charity that would do just that.
Since its establishment, Co-Ground has seen massive success and after a successful crowd-funding campaign in 2016, the socially minded team decided it was time to change things up. How could they spread the word of their charity to Melburnians they thought? The answer, of course: coffee.
In early 2017 with the help of full-time volunteer turned staff member, Todd Nicholls, the team launched Co-Ground Coffee, a mobile coffee van on the corner of Wellington and Langridge Streets in Collingwood.
In order to put as much money towards the charity as possible, Co-Ground Coffee relies heavily on the generosity of others, particularly partners within the hospitality industry. For example, Five Senses donates all the coffee beans while the tea is from Calmer Sutra. Coffee giant La Marzocco also supplied the coffee machine for the five-month long pop-up.
In addition to delicious caffeinated beverages, the shiny silver van serves a scrumptious selection of toasties, pastries and delicious Butterbings.
Grab a coffee and a snack and enjoy the beautiful space, donated by Pace of Collingwood. Tucked away behind the Pace display suite is a hidden oasis of soft wooden furnishings and leafy greens, perfect for enjoying a coffee on a rainy Melbourne day. Outdoor seating is also available for those accompanied by furry friends.
If you want to add a second good deed to your day, bring your own coffee cup and enjoy a 20-cent discount, as well as the knowledge that you’re helping preserve the planet.
Co-Ground is a truly inspiring charity and its latest initiative, Co-Ground Coffee, is simply delicious. Stop by soon, before they pack up their things and go!
