The Provincial Rooftop
299 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy VIC
03 9810 0042
As though Fitzroy’s bar-hopping scene wasn’t already buzzing, here’s one more reason to head to the north side for a night out. The iconic Provincial Hotel has recently taken to the skies and opened a glowing rooftop bar to sit back and enjoy the best of what Melbourne’s skyline has to offer.
Just in time for spring and with summer just around the corner, there’s never been a better time to lap up some rays with an ice-cold beer in hand atop this Fitzroy institution. This funky rooftop comes complete with eclectic furnishings reminiscent of a vintage patio that capitalises on its incredible vantage point over Fitzroy and beyond.
The Rooftop’s menu is sure to leave no glass empty for too long, with an extensive international wine list and fruity selection of cocktails for the taking. Nothing says summer like a cocktail of watermelon, pomegranate, mint and citrusy flavours coming together into one glorious concoction, and you’ll find this shaken up in the Prov’s ‘You’re Punching, Mate’ bev. There are also 10 beers on tap for those hankering for a brew.
When it comes to nibbles, it’s classic bar food galore with a gourmet flair. With Mac bites and 3 cheese sauce, piri piri wings and chips topped with BBQ pulled pork to be had – it’s high time to get down to business. You’ll also not have to look too far for a delicious pizza, gourmet hot dogs served in brioche buns or classic burgers on the rooftop. Think burgers like ‘The Fitzy’, a beef burger topped with cheese doritos and bacon, or for the vegos opt for the ‘Real Fun-Guy, a wild mushroom sausage hot dog topped with fried onions and hummus.
The provincial rooftop is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of Brunswick street without being totally absent from the action – rather, you can take it in from above. The rooftop is open until midnight from Sunday to Thursday and 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, giving ample time to watch the sunset and settle in for the night.
