In the heart of Preston is a brewery looking to quench the thirst of beer-loving Melburnians. Tallboy and Moose is a relaxed, industrial space offering fresh craft beer, casual dining and good vibes.
You might be wondering where the name Tallboy and Moose comes from? It’s pretty logical really – the modern brewery was established by Dan Hall (who’s really tall) and Steve Germain (who’s really Canadian). The two beer-crazed mates had been working with beer for many years, but in 2016 realised they wanted to create a beer-centred space of their own.
Dan has a background in brewing – he has worked at Hawkers, Brewcult, Moondog and more – while Steve’s background is in sales and marketing – he has worked for local and international craft beer labels. The combination of Dan and Steve’s skills was the perfect recipe for the ultimate laid-back bar and brewery.
The guys opened their brewhouse in Preston in late 2016 to a warm welcome – locals were instantly on board with the boys’ casual approach and select range of premium craft brews. Tallboy and Moose features eight craft beers on tap, a select range of local wines, take-away crowler fills (1 litre cans of brewery-fresh beer) and a selection of local food options.
The food comes courtesy of rotating food trucks on weekends, but you can also BYO food from nearby restaurants such as Chew Burger, UAE and Noi Pizzeria. The team also plans to open their own kitchen later this year, so watch this space.
Dan and Steve wanted Tallboy and Moose to be a multifaceted space – equally ideal for date-nights, casual drinks and big nights out. “We wanted to bring the best of both worlds,” said Dan. “We’ve got the freshest beer possible, in an old industrial building, but we’ve brought in a lot of wood to cosy the space up. We want Tallboy and Moose to feel like a second living room for our locals.”
The beer garden out the front is where you’ll find the food vendors, while inside two fireplaces keep things warm and a ping pong table provides ample entertainment. The central feature of the entire space is the 12-metre hardwood bar where beer aficionados can pull up a spot and enjoy the brews on offer.
Tallboy and Moose isn’t your average brewhouse. More friendly local, than upmarket Melbourne bar, Tallboy and Moose aims to share the freshest brews with beer-lovers across the city.
