QT Melbourne Rooftop

In 2016 Melbourne was graced with a gorgeous luxury hotel, QT Melbourne. Housed in the former Great Union cinemas on Russel Street, the hotel represents an eclectic mix of Parisian chic and mix-matched neo-glamour. Hotel staff are dressed in unique uniforms and elevators speak to you through accented voiceovers.
The 188 rooms are innovative and daring, with custom-made artwork and furniture. The complex already boasts a massive European restaurant, Pascale, a lavish Cake Shop, a Korean themed bar Hot Sauce, and now it has added a rooftop, just in time for Melbourne’s summer.
Eleven floors up and split into two sections, the open-air terrace showcases stunning views across the Melbourne skyline. Outdoor furniture designed by Melbourne studio, Tait, includes low-lying lounges and their signature wiry chairs, paired with sleek timber flooring and natural greenery.
Inside you’ll find a sit-up bar, glowing front and centre with green-brick style tiles and an overhanging bar. Upholstered art deco chairs and stools gather by round tables and leather banquettes line the walls. For a bit more intimacy, select segmented booths shield off your neighbours.
If you’re feeling as glam as your surrounds, sip on a French champagne or choose from a large range of local and European wines by the glass (or bottle). Cocktails are a given, but don’t expect the usual classics. The QT rooftop G&T mixes West Winds Sabre gin with elderflower quinine syrup, fresh lime, cucumber sparkling water, rosemary and cucumber, while the Yarra Valley Sour shakes up local Four Pillars gin with fresh lemon, orange blossom, orgeat, egg white and pinot noir.
The rooftop bites are just as tempting. Try a scotch quail egg wrapped in Waygu beef, mortadella, sesame and sticky black sauce, or pick at the polenta-crumbed onion rings with squid ink mayo.
Open seven days a week from 4:30pm to 1am, the rooftop is set for all manner of after-work drinks, and onward into the night.
