Foxy Bean’s distinct vintage vibe and eclectic furniture effectively transforms the space from a cosy breakfast spot by day to a buzzing bar by night, bringing you a burst of life at all hours of the day.
Orla Fox and Gerry Moley initially opened Foxy Bean as a side venture from their day jobs, with Gerry working as a carpenter and Orla an occupational therapist.
However, it began to take off in ways they didn’t suspect, becoming increasingly busy, and soon developing it into a bar and restaurant too. Foxy Bean is now open from day to night, with free live music from Thursday to Saturday. There is also a courtyard function space, which enables them to host anything from weddings and birthdays to baby showers.
Open from 6am until late most nights of the week, its menu offers tapas and canapés, or something more substantial too. For something light, try the homemade pork dumplings or the crispy chicken strips with jalapeno slaw and bitter lime caramel. If that doesn’t quite satisfy your hunger the roast spatchcock with spiced de puy lentils, chorizo and red pepper salsa will warm you up.
Those looking for an earlier affair can expect breakfast daily with a number of choices including homemade felafel on a pita with eggplant jam, rouquette, poached eggs and dukkah or the Bushman’s Benedict, an integral part of the Foxy menu from the beginning, with chipotle braised beef cheeks and pork savoury mince, poached eggs, béarnaise and sourdough.
Foxy Bean hosts a range of evening events like “Foxy Nights” every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night with live music, happy hour and a choice of tapas.
The drinks list is being reimagined, but you can expect to find a selection of delicious cocktails including espresso martinis, making the most of Genovese coffee beans.
Foxy Bean’s interior is ambient and intimate with alternative takes of foxes across the walls and vintage furniture pieces put together in a chic way. Overall it has a cosy vibe and from the moment you walk in, you can expect to feel at ease. It prides itself on exceptional customer service and works hard to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. If you return to Foxy Bean often enough, staff will learn your name and order in no time.
The front area’s bay windows overlook Stanley Street; whilst the back area provides an alfresco garden-style courtyard, perfect for a cold drink on a balmy, Brisbane summer night. With its extensive menu of breakfast, lunch, tapas, dinner and drinks, Foxy Bean has your week covered, no matter what hour of the day you roll in.
